CZ70 PRO in the Closet?

I just bought a clean used CZ70 Pro from the classifieds forum here and it seems to work well. Just how good is this detector as an all-around hunter, compared with today's newer technology machines? DD coils seem to be the way now, and using the CZ 8 mono does seem different (coverage wise) in discriminate mode. My DD machines find known test garden targets a bit faster. But that changes with the CZ in Auto Tune mode! It becomes a Beast! Nails targets, even with a fast swing.

I got the CZ thinking it would make a great salt beach machine chest mounted with 10 inch mono coil to cover ground? But when chest mounted and hunting in Auto Tune mode it might be difficult to constantly press the ID pad with a scoop in one hand and the rod in the other? I'll have to try it. Yet with mono coils I have to wonder how the Pro compares in the ground coverage, masking and stability departments compared to newer machines?

I like the Pro and suppose with the 3 factory coils one could use the CZ70 for just about all types of land to sand/shallow water hunting, including larger gold nuggets. Or have the newer machines moved the Pro to the closet?

seahunter34, Your CZ70 PRO is a great detector and a very capable detector for almost anything you want to hunt with it. The 5" coil is a must have item. It's great in the trash and its depth will amaze you. With all 3 coils for the CZ70 you will be set to hunt anyplace you want.
The concentric coils don't cover as much ground as the DD coils, but are much better discriminators. With all CZ's the trick is to sweep the coil slow and overlap your sweeps. Run your disc at zero and sensitivity at 4 to better ID iron and avoid falsing. Check your signals at 90 degrees, if it repeats it
is a good target. If it drops out it could be a deep square nail. Targets that fall under the relic icon could be some of the odd ball coins like flying eagle pennies, 3 cent nickels, etc. This is also the area square tabs fall but be aware that old coins will hit in that area also. Once you get some time on the
CZ70 PRO, you will love how easy it is to use and how stable the detector is. Sweeping the coil slow will help unmask coins that are next to trash. The 10 1/2" coil seems to work well on coins on edge at depth. Compared to newer detectors it might not have all the bells and whistles as some, but it will
still hunt with the best of them. Good luck with your new detector.....

You have a great machine and one of the best all around units ever. Great beach hunter too. Also, you will not miss much hunting in discriminate mode with that unit on the beach so don't worry too much about switching from auto tune to discriminate mode. I have been beach hunting with CZ's since the CZ6a came out and I still use my original that I bought new when they first came out and it still works super. The only time I use auto tune on the beach is when the targets are sparse and I want to find a spot where the targets are located. Once I do, I switch to discriminate mode ( and I always hunt in setting 0 so I can hear the iron among the goodies and not get fooled by iron wrap around). But, if you hunt in auto tune long enough, you will start to tell the shallow, elongated iron targets like nails, wire, etc. The deeper iron and the rounder iron like washers will be hard to tell ( at least for me they are).

Use that CZ and get used to it...you will find it will be the first unit you pick up when you head out hunting. Just make sure you have the ground balance set correctly and run it at the highest sensitivity without falsing.

What would be a good set of headphones for the CZ70? The Fisher Phones? I tried a pair of Koss UR 30 and noticed the PRO can be very loud! I think I need a set with volume control in addition to the detector volume?

seahunter34, Yes, your CZ70 will get excellent depth with the sensitivity at 4. That machine is hard to run much past 4 without getting some falsing. It seems as though Fisher made the CZ70 a little hotter where you didn't need higher settings on the sensitivity. On my analog CZ5 I normally run
my sensitivity at 6 or less and it is a depth demon. In some places you may be able to run your sensitivity a little higher, but around 4 seems to be where the CZ70 is stable with no falsing. Any good quality headphones with a volume control will work on your detector. The Sunray Pro Golds are nice headphones but they are expensive. After you spend a few hours using the CZ70 you will understand how it operates. It is very easy to set up and use and will certainly find those deep coins and it loves nickels........HH

There was a guy on these forum's Christopher,Ohio who knew all there was to know abour CZ-70's. He tested many of them and said the 112 serial numbers were hotter than the 102 serial numbers and could be run up to 6 sens. instead of 4 like the rest. He's still around, But doesn't detect as much anymore. When it comes to CZ-70's he is the man!

and I can run the sensitivity at 8 if I want to with very little to no falsing. (In land hunting...I have never beach hunted)

It was one that he had hung on to for his own personal use because it was hotter and deeper than almost any others he had ever had.

With the like new Sunray FZ-12 coil on it which I also got from him....I truly feel it's one of the deepest seeking coin hunters on the planet.

If I'm in fairly iron-free ground I use it equal time with my Explorers.

I have always had a CZ in my stable since they first came out many years ago...but the cz70 is my favorite.

It has found me countless 10" deep wheaties and silver in clean ground (free of iron)....and with the FZ-12 coil on it I have no problems getting a full 1" to even 2" deeper on coin sized targets.

I don't think you'll want to stick it in the closet. It's a keeper machine for sure

CZ's in general and I have used every model ever made are surely as deep or deeper coil for coil than anything on the planet and are at home for deep silver or gold rings and things on land and also makes a great salt water beach unit even in the wet salt sand. The secret is to ground balance them spot on using the bobbing method and hunt them slow and they will produce.
Autotune for some reason seems to cover more area from the sides of the coil but becomes a problem check them in disc. and would just run it wide open in disc. and go by the tones and certainly not a closet queen and good luck with your new unit...

WOW! Sounds like you got a hot one forsure Bryce! If it was one of Christopher's machines it's a good one. I know what you mean about CZ's. I love my E-trac,But I also got another CZ-3D as a second detector for the super deep oldies. And they are just plain fun to use. I found my oldest coin to date with it this year a 1816 Large cent at just over 9'' at a spot I thought I cleaned out with my E-trac! They are both great machines and the only two I should ever need.
