CZ6 trade question

Hello Fisher users. I'm currently using a Minelab X-Terra 705 and a white's XLT & DFX. My XLT is up for sale on one of the classified boards, and someone has offered to trade their CZ6 with three coils for my XLT. I've been doing a little bit of reading about the CZ6, but know nothing about its functionality.

Is there anyone here that would know if it would be a good trade? My XLT is in great condition, so I don't know about the older Fishers. Does the CZ6 go as deep as the new CZ models? Would it be in my best interest to find another CZ model that has better capability and functionality? I primarily relic hunt, but I do like to park hunt, as well.

Any information on this detector would be greatly appreciated.

If it is a CZ6 the coil connectors are different from all the other CZ models. The cable has 4 pins the rest have 5. Sounds like you are getting all the coils you need, just know about the connectors. My CZ6a (5 pin) is plenty deep. Ask for an air test on a dime, many older ones are deeper than the new ones.

Thanks a lot for the info. I know it's an older detector, but so is the XLT, but is it durable and worth using as a main detector? Or, should I look for a newer model CZ series? I hear the CZ3D is pretty good, but have no experience with any CZ model.

Like Rob says, ask for an air test on a dime with the 8" coil. CZ6 is a classic and should get 10 to 12"+ on the air test, more w/ the 10.5" coil. I have an older cz and won't part with it.....13-1/2" w/ the 10.5" coil.
Of course, in the soil, its usually a bit less.

Rob notes the coil connector difference on the original CZ6 vs the CZ6A. All the CZ's from the CZ6A forward use the same 5 pin connector. A lot of the original CZ6 units got converted to the CZ6A configuraiton with the 5 pin connector and a standard 1/4 inch audio jack. If it has the conversion to the 5 pin coil connector, that is more desirable. CZ's hold up very well. I actually dropped my CZ6A in the salt water two seasons ago. Even with that, it is still chugging along finding deep goodies nearly 20 years after it was made.

My opinion is a 5 pin coil connector unit with the coils, in similar condition to the XLT you have, would be a reasonable swap. I don't think I'd go even swap with a 4 pin unit. But that's me; others might.

They are easy to use getting started. I think that like any detector, to get best use, they take some time to get used to. Got to get use to best coil speed, sound indications, and how to adjust it to your hunting style that also works best with the detector.
Cheers,

Heres the problem....CZ6 is a 4 pin with a connector that cannot be repaired as its a molded design. Many of this experimental connectors failed and were changed to a 5 pin CZ6A. If it goes down understand Fisher will not work on it until changed to a 5 pin which I believe runs 100 bucks or so from the get go. On the other hand if it hasn't failed in 20 odd years imagine it will not...
XLT on the other hand is easily repaired and Whites has all the parts..many of which are plug in with no soldering required. Heck they even sent me a screen for the price of the screen and walked me thru changing it myself and being all thumbs it still worked well with minimum downtime.
Having used every CZ model ever made CZ6 is certainly comparable to even the newest CZ so that is not a problem.
Don't wish to be a deal breaker but just calling it as it is and yes used a few XLT's over the years also.
Any other CZ info needed just PM me as been there done that...
