CZ5 Question

Dixie Digger

New member
ok i just bought my 1st CZ5 and iv got a question.iv had 30+ other detectors in 30+ years of detecting and this is the 1st and ONLY detector iv ever owned that will pick up Gold Rings and Ignore Pull Tabs! I checked it with 5 diff gold rings and they all read as foil or pull tab on the meter and sound off good audio. But with 2 diff shape pull tab's there is NO audio response at all! my disc is set @ 2 it also id's a nickle with good audio ...this is just too good to be true! are all the CZ's this way? if so iv been missing out on a whole new world of TH'n.

DD,

Are you referring to the new square tabs people break off beer and soda cans or the older ring tabs with tails? Square tabs can be a pain as they are so close to nickels that most detectors cannot tell the difference.

I don't currently own a CZ but have used them in the past. Some long timer users say you can tell by the audio the difference between foil and rings. Hunting a Ballfield one time the very first foil signal I dug was a small mens wedding band! I probably dug 30 more targets that day that sounded identical and they were all foil!

One word of caution, the past few years of wading for jewelry I find larger mens bands becoming more and more common losses. This should apply to sportsfields and parks as well. These bands can read anywhere between nickel and zinc depending on size and thickness.

Anyway it is hard to beat CZ's for coin and jewelry hunting and I plan on returning one to my arsenal.

yep most all Gold rings read as foil or pulltab, silver rings read as silver coin.i can here the diff between foil and pulltab, but good rings fall in with that! the 1st post i made was air test but that all changed when ground tested! still have to dig all.LOL!

The Fisher CZ5 is a true nickle killer. 95% of the time I've had a solid nickle hit it has been just that. Almost all of the gold rings (and I've dug dozens) have registered centered on round tab ! I have detected many places with so many Memorial Cents, that I made the mistake of not digging the shallow Zinc readings. Lately I've decided to dig them and found that a good number of Silver rings and thin necklaces register at zink (who knows what I've passed). As for the lack of audio on Gold rings versus pull tabs, I have not witnessed that, although my soil conditions allow me to run the CZ5 at max sensitivity, and I set my discrimination on iron. I would never trade my CZ5, and use it as one of my top coin shooters. Hip mounting makes it an all day hunter. Your best bet is to dig 'em all for a few weeks, while listening hard and relying on those experiences. As with all detectors, no find-reading is foolproof, I've dug nickles on solid iron hits, and gold rings on zink hits Etc. Good luck hunting, and welcome to the CZ forum. Jerry

so far i love it!only thing,it wants to single hit a lot and not repeat in the other direction.i assume that might be hot rocks.many times i get a good hit in both directions, dig and nothing there? iv had many detectors over the years to include a Excalibur 1000 but i like the CZ5 better!

Those 4 ways with nothing there could be hot rocks, but what I have found is that usually they are rusty nails lying flat in the ground. The good signal is off the end of the nail so they miss pinpoint and are found in the side of the dig hole. One way (back and forth) signals can be coins near iron or iron falses. As you know that is one of the things that throw a lot of people on whether to dig or not. There are audio clues that can help, experience in digging them and learning the difference between iron falses and true good "iffy" signals takes time. Some catch on quicker than others it seems.
