I just got a (new to me) CZ5 in great cond. Now the hard part,, How is the best way to ID target and get depth reading?? I will hunt in mostly clay n'mix soil.....What coil and what settings work best ? I think i know how to ground balance OK......Have a stock 8" coil, but would appreciate opinions on other size coils for beach and / or ?
Is the spider 10' better than the S-12 coil?? Any tricks on the one-way beeps ? some seem to be good until i swing the coil over them several times, then I loose it,,,,,, driving me crazy??

I'm in the clay-rich soil of OK now, but have been up in MI for 4 years, and cut my teeth with detecting here in OK.

Start with your sens. around 4 or 4 1/2, and volume at 4 1/2. I keep my Disc. at 0 Disc. so I can hear all the tones. I want to know when I'm in an iron-rich area. When you're getting iron hits like made, SLOW DOWN! I've pulled good targets, silver dimes, quarters, and halves, out of iron-ridden picnic areas, that had a plague of pulltabs. It takes some getting used to. Even after all my years, I still get fooled by some nails. I don't mind.

I have all three Fisher coils for my CZ. Here in Tulsa, I typically only use the 10.5" (sports fields, playgrounds, deep hunting), and the 5" "hockey puck" (trashy areas, near/under playground equipment, small/tight areas, etc.

I usually hunt in the SALT mode all the time. Up in Michigan, I had to, as all the iron mineralization in the dirt acted like fog, and SALT helps see through that. In dirt that isn't so heavily mineralized, SALT mode makes it easier to GB the unit.

A word of advice: If you do decide to get accessory coils, do yourself a favor and also purchase extra middle- and lower-stem extensions for that coil. This makes changing coils VERY easy. Just unhook the coil cable from the control-box, loosen the lock-nut, release the shaft, attach the new one, lock it, and fasten the new coil cable. VOILA, you're done! I can change coils in under a minute when I'm pressed.
