CZ5, CZ6, OR CZ3D?

Which detector is better, the CZ-5, CZ-6, or the CZ-3D? Will one work better than the other? Which would be easier to find silver and gold coins? In areas with high mineralization which would work better? How about with EMI? Would the analog CZ-5 or CZ-6 do better than the CZ-3D?

All great units. The 3d was designed specifically for old coins and has 4 tones. It will ping high tone on all US coins if calibrated properly. They are all deep seekers. Not the best in high trash or thick iron.

The CZ6 is different in the sense it has a different coil connector than the other CZ's....making coils a harder find.

They would all work similar, with the 3D having a 4th tone and designed for older sites when using enhanced mode. Having used analog CZ's for over 20 years, I have never had an EMI issue. They don't have an DD coils for them, so mineralization can be an issue and I would think all 3 would be similar in that respect.

If I had the choice, I would get the CZ5..if you can find one. If you can find a Tom D certified 3D, that would be a great option. The CZ5 would probably cost less if you find one for sale.

Now, if you come across a CZ6a, get that baby...but you may see me snatch it up first !!!

Will it ping high on gold coins too? Thanks for both of your quick comments.

It will high tone on a half eagle and up.

First and foremost rule out the CZ6 as it had a coil connector that went bad and is vintage 1992...
CZ3D if you hunt 100 year old areas as its made for this environment.
CZ6A which is weather resistant version of the CZ5 would be my choice.
PS: any CZ analog or digital that is tuned well will serve you well....

The 6a is just like the 5, and uses the same coils as the rest of the CZ's. But there isn't a speaker, and hence better weather resistance and splashproofness ( is that a word ?!).

You can't hunt without headphones, so that may be a drawback for some. But since I mainly hunt salt water beaches, I use headphones and want the extra protection of how the 6a is built. I am still using my original 6a bought in 1993. It has 1000's, of hours of use in the salt water enviroment and keeps on going. Never even had it sent in for any type of repair or tune up.

It has been swamped by ocean waves, in torrential downpours and even dropped on a cement floor from 3-4 feet in the air ( accidentially or course) and has never failed.

They are hardly ever for sale, so if you do come across a nice one, get it !!!!!!!

Going to second the Therover on that one. After using every CZ model ever made now just have my excellent CZ6A which will go down as my favorite, understand to make a CZ3D with the weather resistant abilities it would cost over $200. Don't know how long I have left In hobby but when I hang up my boots might just hang it on the wall as a conversation piece...

Nun....Get a E-trac!!!!............:poke:

Oooohh, you are pokin the bear, mascard,... lol..

I got rid of my Etrac because I thought my CZ3d did the same thing with less drama. There is something pretty sweet and simple about a good hit on a CZ. To each his own but I will probably never not have at least one CZ in the stable.

Therover, I beat you to it. I just found a CZ-6a on another forum. I will still keep my eyes open for a CZ-3d too for hunting San Francisco and old parks in Sacramento.

The old timer and owner of the mom and pop detector shop I go to uses a cz6a. Out of all the detectors he has at his fingertips, that's his 'go to' unit.

I just purchased 2 detectors, a CZ-6a from New Mexico and a Tom certified to 12" CZ-3D coming from Australia. I hope they both work great as advertised.
