CZ3D The good, bad and ugly...

Dan-Pa.

Received my CZ3D yesterday and took it to an old beat area..Managed a 10 inch indian head and a 5 inch V nickel and advanced mode seemed to work like it was supposed to, however didn't give the regular mode a go..Actually a very brief report and will have to do a lot of testing..
GOOD..goes deep even though I couldn't run the sens. over 4..Seems like the sens. parameters have been changed as I usually run a 6 or 8 in this area.Meter seemed much easier to read than previous analog units I used, hand grip was much thicker and comfortable. Didn't dig any rusty nails, large target alert seemed much more sensitive.Same tank like construction of previous analog CZ's I used and in reallity a CZ5 with altered facets and the choice of a advanced mode for older areas and regular for new areas. I feel coins all will get me more wheat pennies as the facet appeared bigger and can see the advanced mode could surely get you some nice extra goodies if you dig all high tones and can see where Fisher and Tom are coming from. Also like the sens. settings of 1 to 10 and everything in between such as 4.5 rather than the 2-4-6 settings of the digital models.
BAD....Ground and Sens. are just too easy to move and should have a washer to tighten them...also would be nice if a velcro strap were issued with the unit which are small items.
UGLY....Nah the new ehanced decals are to my liking......
I am sure it will serve me well and get me many deep silver and to me using all CZ models to date feel its a keeper for my type of hunting..As I use it will add after I reread the manual and get some field experience..

Dan,

I use the 3D quite a bit. I've dug IH's at close to 11 inches with the 10.5 inch coil. That's exceptional in my area of PA. Nothing even comes close (except another CZ) that I've swung or hunted beside in a comparable coil size. I hunt with an Explorer and do prefer it at some of the sites I hunt. But, in milder ground (GB above 5) the 3D is deeper. I do agree that the knobs can get turned quite easily. When I hunt in colder weather and wear gloves it seems more of a problem. I've just got in the habit of glancing at the knobs after I dig. I can usually run the 3D around 5 in sensitivity most of the time. I really haven't pushed it above 5 much. 11 inch holes are deep enough... :) I'll also comment that the 8 inch coil seems to really be able to sniff those dimes out. I've had alot of fun using the 3D in the year I have had it. HH!

Hi Dan, you should get to really like the CZ 3D. Try slowing down the swing, deep coppers really sound off and the silver gives a much smaller sound. Iron sounds good giving a coin sound until you center over it and then the iron tone is apparent. HH, John

Of course you have the advantage of already being a very competent CZ user. I have saved a lot of posts about the 3D over the last year and a half. Email me thru this site and I will send you the Word document.

I found an 1874 IH today with mine. It hit in the Zinc penny area like it should. Sorry it was only at 4" deep. So no "deep coin" story about it.

Enjoy your unit, I'm sure you'll like it. You're definitely right about bumping the sens and GB controls. I try to remember to check my sens setting after each pinpointing I do. I can usually run mine around a sens of 5.
