Im hunting a few parks from the 20s and earlier, only digging the good high tones that are 6+ inches down, ive dug my share of junk at these places and pretty much cleaned out all the silver.
But now I would like to check for jewelry. So at these places that have many sq tabs, nails, pulltabs etc.. what would be the best setting?
when I bob for ground balance it usually sets right around at the preset on the knob, so theres no real ground mineral issues. I was hunting with a buddy when he found a solid gold ring, I was set at 0 disc, vol-8, sens between 3-4. he let me check it with my 3D and it registered as junk! it was bouncing between iron, and pulltab. was it because he dug it and buried it back up so i could check? is it because of the metal composition? Id go crazy if I had to dig every pulltab reading. This is a big park, im sure theres more gold there. Im just wondering what settings I should use? and where does most of the rings fall? it says in the book that rings fall in the 3 center catagories, with nickel being the highest. So I would really like to hear from you 3D owners out there who can give me a heads up on finding some jewelry. Ive owned this machine for a month and a half, im on my 4th set of batteries and my silver count has gone up considerably, BUT NO RINGS! what are your setting? and what do you listen-look for when hunting for rings-jewelry?

Thanks

Would just like to add...I have been digging all the repeatable foil and tab targets with considerable depth, I have been leaving all the one way signals or signals that seem too long to be a coin while pinpointing. Was just wondering where most of the rings bounce to or fall into, or is it just a matter of cleaning the whole area out? and hope I get lucky? the ring my friend found read 50c on his mxt.Is looking for rings going to make me dig every pulltab and piece of foil in the park?

Gold rings come in all over the meter on any unit so are difficult to find on land as most places are loaded with junk that mimics gold rings...However the CZ3D differ from other CZ's as it has a midlow tone for foil and thats where approx. 35 to 40 percent of your gold rings will come in and once you learn the tones should help you cut down the odds.
My area is loaded with tabs also so would dig all nickle and foil as if I dug all the tabs would never get off my knees and still get a good portion of the gold rings in the area..
Might interject a real deep tab reading or perhaps one that really hits hard I would investigate. No sure way to tell rings on a CZ but you can cut down the odds without breaking your back digging and still pick up some nice jewelry but it takes patience and learning the audio of your unit..Don't know where you got your info but the foil facet contains approx 1/3 of gold rings and a small percentage fall in the nickle range and indeed once the gold ring(surely wasn't solid as 24kt. is too soft) was dug a halo of sorts was broken..If all gold rings were the same size and kt. and mixed with the same metal perhaps we could narrow them down more exactly however they vary and it takes a patient hunter with a knowledge of where most gold rings fall versus the amount of trash falls that mimics them to excell and indeed those that find gold rings do dig more trash than the average hunter that just goes for coins. Perhaps someday with new technology we may have machines with more accuracy rel gold jewelry but for the time being guess we will have to work at it.
As an addendum those that water or beach hunt increase their chances of finding a gold ring so you may try that type of hunting enviroment...

His ring he dug is on the Treasurenet banner, solid 24K. I guess its just a matter of passing the coil over the right spot. Un-dug? who knows what it wouldve fallen into.
thanks for the info Dan
