CZ3d Gets it done at the old fairgrounds

I was lucky enough today to get off of work and hunt an old but still active fairgrounds near my home. I had never been there before but it was pretty obvious that it had been it hard. Beautiful grassy areas with huge trees made it a fun place to hunt. Had a buddy with me and we dug modern clad for the first couple of hours. We each finally found a few wheat cents but silver was elusive. Got a faint, jumpy signal that I had him check with his F70. His comment was, "jumpy but I would dig it". It was really deep and the coin was hard to locate in the hole. Pretty sure I put a decent scratch on it poking around looking for it. Seated is always good though. The Barber was a super surprise since it was only about three inches deep. Got about $2 in clad. Will definitely be going back to try again.

Harold,
I had a buddy check it with his machine before I dug it. He showed 8 inches plus. The CZ was seven or more. It was tough to find. It was a mixed signal and had some iron around it. At one point, after the hole was opened, it vanished. I finally went back to the CZ to get a clue which direction to look, It was at the edge of the hole and deeper than we had dug. I was super pleased to see her sitting there.

I have never understood it, but every CZ I have ever used will sometimes " lose " the signal altogether, once I had a hole opened. If you just remove a little more dirt, it will " re-appear !""

When it happens to me, it's almost always because the 3d has found a coin on edge (usually a dime), that other machines have missed. Last time it happened I gouged the crap out of a wheat penny in the side of the hole.
Fortunately, it wasn't silver. For some reason, I find more coins on edge with the CZ-3d and my CTX.

If it weren't for the weight, which is not to bad the cz's in my book are still king of the hill..If they would just add the 1-99 numerical i.d to it
,well perfection would be achived, even though, its still the most versitale machine to me..s.t

Nice haul! My dream is to find a seated dime! The Barber dime and pre-1900 indian head penny got scratched from my list last month! (I still need a Barber quarter and a buffalo/V nickel too) And Supertraq, I have thought that before myself about how neat it would be to have the target ID numbers on a CZ! Unfortunately to do that we would not have these awesome analog deep-seekers! We would have digital units that don't perform like our dear CZ's! I have several machines, White's DFX, XLT, Prizm V, IDX Pro, Classic II and III, Garretts GTA500 Ultra and some older White's and Garrett units. What I have learned is that the more I think I know about a target, the more chance I have of passing it up. I am quite sure that my "smart" gear has talked me out of a ring or two and who knows what else! The Fisher CZ5 I own has changed my way of metal detecting. It is the newer version with plastic arm cuff and is a fairly deep reading unit on it's own. (BTW I'd love to see if NASA Tom could get any more out of it but he has told me that he thinks mine sounded like it was as good as it might get. He may not be able to add much to it plus I live in a newer region so the CZ3D switch would not benefit me much.) What the Fisher did was to remove the un-necessary data and got me digging more targets. Even stock, my CZ LOVES to ring high on anything that could be a good target. I dig a LOT of soda can tops and and aluminum wine screw tops but I also dig a ton of nickels! I have always known that a detector that can find nickels will find rings and my CZ found all of my gold, most recently a massive man's wedding band from a sledding hill I like to hunt. Now the only thing I don't dig is the hi/lo toned iron nail signal (boy did I dig a LOT of nails before I figured it out!) and I am about to stop digging zinc penny targets. When my CZ says it's a "zinc-oln" it's ALWAYS a zinc penny and here in Tulsa they are usually 3/4 eaten by our acidic soils. Still learning and enjoying it after 15 years of "Dirt fishing"!

scratch or no scratch, still a nice find comet! I really enjoy the CZ with the 5'' coil in the trash. Some say it's to much noise but to be able to hear what's down there and work out the keepers that others have passed due to their unit nulling out or just plain not seeing the target is worth it. To me getting out on a dig is relaxing so the "noise" as they call it is fine by me :beers:
