CZ3D First Time Out

Captain Hook

New member
The Fedex guy delivered my CZ3D Saturday afternoon. I decided to take it out for a short hunt after church on Sunday. I never really got the ground balance thing to work. But, I really never heard a lot of noise or chatter either. As you can see from the picture, I found a few targets. The $1.00 coin was my first. Overall I was very impressed with the CZ3D. I traded my X-Terra 70 for a MXT. I used the MXT for awhile, then I traded it for the CZ3D. My Brother-in-law has a CZ3d. When we hunt together on Thursday evenings, he usually puts a wooping on me. I think I may be able to give him a run for his money now.....

There are two ways to ground balance the detector. Try this first before you try the bobbing method.
Ground bal at 10, disc in autotune, sen 10. Now hold your coil at about waist high and turn the detector on. You will hear a threshold hum.
Now with the coil still in the air push the pinpoint button and hold it in , and then lower the coil and set it on the ground while still holding the pp button in.
Now start to turn the grnd bal knob clockwise until you hear the threshold hum, and then turn it back just a hair until the hum is gone.
You are now ground balanced. Set disc at 0 sen at 4.5 and go getum.
They claim the bobbing method is slightly more accurate, but there is very little difference.

Great!.......I think

I hate to tell you this but when you hunt with 2 CZ's in close proximity you lose most of your depth. Me and my hunting buddy both have CZ-70's and we cant hunt within 200 feet of each other because the detectors lose depth and won't ground balance. We have other detectors also so when we hunt together we flip flop on who will use the CZ for the day.

Well if that's the case, I quess I will use my F5. I sold two coils and a Bounty Hunter detector. Then I took $40 out of some of the clad I found this year and I bought a F5. The F5 looks like a very nice detector as well. Thanks for the heads up on the ground balance issue. I will give it a try.

Make sure your sens. and volume is at 10 and use the bobbing method this will help you to hear the changing audio better. Once you finish set them where you like.

Just a fact of life two CZ's in close proximity will talk to each other and even a football field away will cause both of you to loose depth and stability so not a good idea to have a CZ buddy if you are using a CZ, This info from reading several articles and personal experience with CZ's....

A friend of mine had a test spot, and this is what we did.
He took his CZ 5 and 8" coil and I took my CZ 5 and 8" coil and we set them up the same and GB in the same spot.
He with his CZ on and mine off, he got the coil over a 8" dime and turned the Sens down until he just got the dime, if he raised the coil, he lost the dime.
Then while he was swinging over the dime, I turned my CZ on at about 100', and when I got to about 75', he lost the dime. My sens was about 4.5 and I don't remember his setting, but it was real low. You could not hear them talking to each other, but when I got close to his, you could hear them talking.
I never tried it with a MXT, but when my MXT gets close to to a CZ, they get to talking.
I love the CZ's, but have other units, because of others that I hunt with have CZ's.
I can say that my Edge plays nice with a CZ......

You and your friend need to try your CZ's and see if you can use them and stay more than 75' away from each other.

Thanks for all the above useful information. We did hunt together, and both of us did just
great with our CZ3d's. We did put some distance between us, and both found targets shallow
and deep (2 to 8 inches). Most areas we hunt are large enough for both of us, and we are not
only friends, but brother-in-laws, and my wife will spank him if he does not cooporate with me!

Maybe it's not the detector..... We both used our CZ3D's and I still got spanked. I found a bunch of clad. However, he found clad, wheats, and Mercury Dimes.
Since I have only had the CZ3D a few days, I think I still have a lot to learn. We will just leave it at that.
