CZ3D Disc. Question

Fisher-Man59

New member
I have been running a Cz3D for around 12 years now. It is an early 1021, also tuned by NASA Tom. I keep reading on the forms how everyone runs their 3D's on 0 Disc. I have always ran mine on the preset 4. Am I missing something. I can see no depth increase on 0 over 4 . Why listen to all the chirping and beeping on 0. Isn't that the purpose of Disc. on a detector is to get away from all the non coin sounds. Have had great luck with my 3D, finding many of my best finds with it. Hopefully someone will give my a good reason why to run on 0 Disc. Also I can not run my Sen. over 3 1/2 without a lot of false signals. Thanks

Hello Fisher-Man59,with the disc set to zero , you will hear low, medium and high tones. If your rejection is set to 4 or (coins) ,there is a good chance you are missing some good targets that will be rejected by very closely located (trash) items. Iron being rejected close to a coin and wala, NO coin.if you get an iffysignal, check it in pinpoint, you may have a good target mixed in with the Iron......two close beeps........Running your sensitivity on 3.5---4.0 is fine. CZs are plenty deep at that setting. HH Tony

I think a lot of people run it with 0-disc because it makes it a little easier to determine if a good sounding target is falsing iron. CZ's are known to be fond of pointy ferrous. You can probably disc it pretty high with minimal (if any) depth loss, but like Tony-Ok stated, target separation can suffer a bit when using disc.

I have always ran 0 Disc. Not only CZs but any detector with Tone I.D. and just listen for a certain tone. Also why I like Modulated Audio as the older coins are most Likely deeper so Listen for that softer tone. Also deeper lower conductors like Indians and V- Nickels do a pull tab bounce at edge of depth so you may be discing them out. And lastly I feel you get that little extra depth IMHO.

First and foremost should be able to run your sens. 4.5 to 5 and still have a stable unit...needs a retune I would think.
Second run your disc. too high and miss a nice gold ring which may equate to a months collection of coins..

True and true.

If your cz-3d is not stable beyond 3.5 sensitivity in most areas there would seem to be an issue.

And there is a significant difference in depth between running 3.5 and running 5.0 or close to 5.0 which gives maximum depth on most 3ds.

mrwilburino said it right about running disc at 0. That's the best setting to identify the high tone iron falses.

But if you are happy with your finds with the disc at 4 and you don't feel like you are digging a lot of iron, and you prefer the quieter detecting experience you get at that setting, than go for it.

What works best for me may not necessarily work best for you.

Thanks guys for the help. You made it a little clearer for me to see the reasons behind the 0 Disc. I will give it a better try next time out., I will also try running my Sens. up to 5 to see how it works.Got to love the 3D in enhanced mode. I've found my first gold class ring, watch fob, oldest coin, and first silver dollar with mine. Thanks again

Run Disc = 0, and let the "Iron Drone" be your friend!

I hope I am not promoting any product here, but if you can get your hands on a copy of NASA-T's Inland Hunting dvd, he uses a CZ-3D prototype in his real world hunt and you can see the benefits of using 0 discrimination as iron targets will at times give a false high tone followed immediately after by the iron low, telling you its a junk target. You also see how the high tone is more washed out than a coin high tone. I found it extremely useful.

Yes you are rite as I have the DVD myself. It's cool to watch the live dig of a beautiful coin and other goody as don't want to spoil it for those who have not watch it.
Also a good regular CZ book is Andy Sabisch CZ Book as a lot of good tips.

Hi Harold, by chance do you know where I can get my hands on Andy's book, been looking for one. Sent Andy a PM to see if he had 1 but no luck. Thanks, Don

No, you can try a want ad on this Forum as someone should have a copy. It's great for CZs fans. At the end even shows pictures of all the models through the years. I think it was only book wrote on the CZ.

That is normal for Los Banos, in your case Nasa Tom calibrated units.
They tune/tuned it that way to run very hot and the customer could decide how much falsing is enough,
because every one has it's individual preference.
There is everything fine with your CZ-3D.

And the disc... ?? .... find your preference. If you like your find rate and the finds depending on your settings
I think it works for you. Digging trash will cost some time...
So some use the disc and some like deciding on visual/tone ID.
What ever works for you, go ahead and make your find.

Regards

my CZ 3D purchased in 2004 [1021] has always become unstable over 4 sensitivity and i have to manually ground balance to get it there. but it still will air test a dime a little over 12 inches so if mine is out of adjustment good im goona leave it right there. and ive always run wide open disc. i want to hear iron. and its found more great stuff than most peoples detector arsenals combined. it has worn out my shoulder though

Hey Farmer ......might want to try hipmounting.............takes a bit to get used to...but lightens the load...yepper sure gets the deep goodies.....

Dan, ive tried it is very uncomfortable to me, been using a Nokta fors core lately very nice detector but a different style of detecting altogether, but it is the the most ballanced joker ive ever used. its not my 3-d though :{
