Just took my CZ21 out for the 2nd time and still running into issues with the GB. Doing everything by the book with manual GB but can't seem to get the tone to disappear backing down ground control from 10. Anybody else having issues moving from dry to wet sand with stability? If any other users can give best beach settings I would appreciate it. After 25 years TH I'm stumpted on this one.

Hey rollie let me know on how you feel about this machine, so far . I'm thinking of getting one but, it seems that there are problems with machine and customer service. I tried the whites pulse but I had no control over the volume so I sold it ( my hearing is still good I just hate when it screams ) I need one that has volume adjustment to it.I want to try the mine lab but the way its set up it just doesn't work for me they should make it like the sovereign, that water machine design needs a total make over.

If you are in the market for another pulse unit, try the HH Pulse. I have one and it works great on the beaches here in NJ. Has volume control, freq adjust, thresh adjust, light, water proof, 2 diff coils ( I have both...easier to pin point with the 8 inch but the 11 covers tons of ground and goes really deep).

I have an Excal too, but I have to hip mount that sucker which is a pain. Sometimes its just nice to get out with the HH, dig everything and see what happens. I can swing that baby for hours.

Yesterday at the beach there were lots of nails and iron, and I dig LOTS of junk, bud did manage to pull a 14K name charm outta the wet sand....with a nail in the scoop too. Probably luck, and the pulses are a pain in junk, but the HH does go really deep and with the freq adjusment, you can set it to hit gold hard.

Redbird...it's the Detector Pro line of detectors..where the guts are in the headphones. Their pulse unit is really good. They have other units, but they are fixed ground balance units. I have a Wader model that I really like as well. I use that for hunts in the rain, when in the wet sand when there is LOTS of iron nails and junk, when I have time for only an hour or when my shoulder is acting up. If you go to the Detector Pro link on the forum there is a link to their site.

I hip mount everything I use ( Excal, Cz6a) except my DFX because it has the screen. My other unites are the Detector Pro units and there is no need.

I agree that probably the 2 best VLF waterproof units for salt water hunting are the Excal and CZ21. As you probably know the CZ21 is a manual ground balance machine, where the Excal is automatic and tracks. I am like you...that design has to go. I actually use the hip mount kit and put it around my waist with the unit in back of me. One great thing about the Excal is set it an forget it unless you want to adjust the sensitivity. On the beach, discrim at lowest setting, volume as you like, sensitivity highest without the unit being unstable and swing away. But that baby, even on a straight shaft, gets heavy quick.

Good luck on whatever you choose and have fun.

Hi ALL, This is my Personal OPINION, and there are MANY OTHERS WHO AGREE!! If you are WANTING TO DETECT FOR MANY HOURS and NOT IN WAIST
or CHEST DEEP WATER!! Then INVEST $29.95 plus $5 shipping in a SWINGY-THINGY HARNESS sold by one of Findmall's Forum Sponsors (Doc at COILTEK)!
Click on DOC'S Banner which is a Green Colored banner on the SOVEREIGN/EXCALIBUR Forum. This harness will work with any Round Shaft Metal Detector, COMES with Easy To UNDERSTAND INSTRUCTIONS, and is of VERY GOOD QUALITY!! I know $34.95 seems like alot of money to spend for the harness, but once you get it, I DON'T THINK YOU WILL REGRET IT!!
I also had the other harness, known as the LeJourner Harness, and replaced it with the SWINGY-THINGY Harness, and NEVER REGRETTED IT!! Hope this helps,
hh, Les Robinson

Hey Rollie,

While your doing your GB and backing down from 10 you should be getting 2 tones, one tone as you lower the coil and another tone on the upswing. You want to get rid of the tone the machine makes on the upswing. If you back down to number one and still have a tone on the upswing you just hunt with it set at 1.
Did you try to GB somewhere other than the beach since you posted this?

There is a way to check if your GB circuit is working properly, let me know if you need the info.
