CZ20 coverted to CZ21 upgrade question ???

What is everyone's opinion on this upgrade ? Do you think it is actually better ? The reason I'm asking is because I sent my CZ20 in for upgrade and other repairs and am curious. I was told by fisher that I had no choice but to upgrade since they don't repair the CZ20's anymore.

My CZ-20 is still chugging along and performing well so I really don't have a data point other than what I've read. I've read about some being happier than others with the upgrade results. I think it depends on how hot your CZ-20 was and how hot the upgraded CZ-21 detector is. There was variation across the CZ-20's and I've read of observed variations across the CZ-21's.

He has to upgrade since he also needs repairs and they don't repair CZ20's anymore. I wouldn't worry about it too much as Felix and the gang do good work so you should be happy.

I need that info too...before I ruin my 54-year marriage by shelling out $1300+. could you tell me what's a fair price for a cz20, and would performance difference be worth it?

Absolute newbie. Will use the thing on the beach & in the surf in south Floriduh.

Differences in the CZ-20 and CZ-21. I have both.

Both get about the same amount of depth. I believe the CZ-20 is a little deeper. CZ-21 has no lights and a better pinpoint button HOWEVER I never use it, I had First Texas disable it.

I believe BUT nobody has confirmed or denyed it that the CZ-21's electronics are made in China. EVERY time I have had to send my CZ-21 in for repair and thats been a few times they have HAD to replace the coil. STILL bugs me.

I REFUSE to upgrade my CZ-20 until it absolutely dies. Then I will not have the choice.

First Texas is a wonderful company and stand behind their product. But I will not have my electronics of the CZ-20 changed as long as I can avoid it.

My CZ-21 has a 10.5" coil. I use it as my primary machine. My CZ-20 has the 8" coil. I use it in muck and weeds without wearing myself out too much. I ALWAYS hipmount either machine as I mostly dive.

IF you find a good CZ-20 make sure the price is right. To buy one for over 400.00 AND then find out it has problems is NOT very cost effective.

Just sent my CZ-20 5" coil to get upgraded to a CZ-21 with a 8" coil. Should have it by Monday.
