CZ gain setting

Rob (IL)

New member
I've read many times that the gain on the CZ's are best at 4.5 to 5 gain. I was running my 6a today and the targets were sparse. I tried running the gain higher. I turned it up to 6 and got a hit. I turned it down to 5 and couldn't hear it anymore. It turned out to be a 27 Wheatie. It started to rain but before I left I had several more hits that acted the same.

So is there a reason to not run gains higher than 5? Is there anyone running higher gains. If so what's your clue to the high limit.

Run the CZ at the highest sensitivity setting you can, as long as it runs stable.

I know when I am running too high of a gain because the unit will false every now and then when sweeping.

Now and then doesn't sound bad.

Depends on your CZ and area you are hunting and of course the tuning of the CZ in hand...As the Rover equates to high enough where your unit is stable..Some say 4.5 but I feel in most cases I run at 6-7-8 as long as for the most part unit is stable with minimum falsing and dig them as deep as anyone...After a while you will just know a false from a good hit and get superior depth....

It's the one I bought from you Dan. It's good to hear.

Dans rite as they are all different even CZ-3D's as I had a 1021 Los Banos I could run wide open with out falsing. The newer First Texas model I have now I can only run to 4.5 before it starts to false. But they get close to the same depth with the 1021 a hair deeper,But the one I have now is better in iron so go figure?

I'll keep experimenting Harold. The nplace I hunted today was the same as in the first post. As I said it has been hunted. I only found 3 shallow recent drops. I found 3 1020's wheaties. Again at 6.5 I could hear them and at 5, I couldn't.

At 6.5 I am getting down to the nails where the wheaties are. This is in the 9+ range. My pro pointer was completely in the hole. It is noisier. Practice, practice.
