CZ beach rig

I found an older CZ rod assembly with the metal fins and bent them so one of my CZ6a's could fit onto the fins via the belt strap slots. Put some black tape on it to make sure it didn't wobble, fashioned my Sunray FZ12 to it and took it for a test run in the yard. It's balanced really well and it hits my deepest test target ( 11 inch silver quarter on edge) with a repeatable high tone with the coil 2-3 inches off the ground.

Can't wait to get this thing to the beach.

After an uneventful dry sand hunt today with only $2 in clad with a bunch of corroded zincs, I was in dire need to get back into wet sand hunting with a big coil. At this point the wet sand hasn't been producing much, but hopefully the FZ12 can sniff out a few deepies that are out of reach of the other hunters. Gonna pit this thing up against my Sov GT with the WOT coil ( when I get the darn thing...it's backordered). If there ain't much difference, I may be selling a Sov GT beach rig !

If you are hunting a saltwater beach large coils don't handle the wet salt sand as well as the 8 but the coverage is terrific. Mounting box under armcup is an idea for a dig it all beach situation where you can pinpoint using the X method but on land you can't see the meter and pinpoint is tough to get to. Body mounting seem to me to be a better situation as the control box will never touch the corrosive sand. But again whatever works....

yea Dan,
I agree 100% with the hip/chest mounting ,that is all I do is beach hunting so I always chest mount my control box with either my Sovereign GT or my CZ.

George

Only problem I have had with the hip or chest mounting is stressing the cable, and the times when I almost sheared it off by accidently stepping on the cable !

I don't meter read, pin point using the X method so no need for the button, and just like it better when I don't have to worry about the cable. It's nice when I can take off the head phones and set my unit down for a break or when searching with my water proof pin pointer for the smaller targets.

My 6a's are tough and I have had them loaded with sand and they just keep on going...but I am careful and hardly ever set the unit down in the sand anyway.

I still use my CZ's with the 8 inch coil mostly all the time, but the conditions we have now in the wet sand, I need more coverage and a bit more depth.
