CZ-Battery compartment ?

HaroldILL.

Active member
How many of you analog CZ owners out there have a battery compartment were the batterys stick out a little to far so when you tighten the cover it bows out in the middle ? I would think eventually the cover would crack. This is just another little problem my and others CZ's have. I have to send mine in to Tom to get calabrated and I don't know how to fix this problem ? I don't know maybe I'm getting frustrated,But after I get it calibrated I might sell it and be through with CZ,s! They are to Damn unpredictable! Thank god for minelab!

Harold,
Have you tried different battery's ??
I got a hold of some one time that were a little longer than most battery's.

My old CZ5 did that & eventually slightly cracked the cover. I reinforced it, inside, with JB Weld & it has been fine ever since. [ many years ] I did find that one battery brand that I was using was probably the cause of this. I don't remember which one, but it may have been Panasonic batteries.
Not trying to argue , but many of us will disagree with CZ's being unpredictable. Anyway , Tom will get yours set up to maximum potential.

Plain and simple all 9 volts are not the same length...somewhere along the way odd ball long ones were used or perhaps the springs are too rigid or last but not least a faulty compartment cover..
Owned quite a few analogs CZ's over the years and also been on CZ forums for years and never heard of this complaint imagine replacement battery compartment covers are available from Fishers parts unit..Minelabs used to be top shelf but their service has seemed to go downhill with new Employees since they moved their U.S.A. facility...

Thanks I will try a different brand, I have had 4 CZ-3Ds and 3 were bad over 5 years. And yes the one good one was a los banos,So make of it what you will. And if it wasn't for Tom Dankowski I would not have took a chance on this one. And by the way I have been using CZs for 12 years I know a little about them maybe not as much as some of you,But I am no newbie yuppie ! As far as minelab service I wouldn't know ,Because my E-trac has been so dependable I haven't had to send it in. They tend to get there detectors rite from the get go like you should !

I know of several other CZ owners who have had the same problem , too. The covers are available from Fisher, if you decide to get a new one.

Speaking from experience 18-19 years down the road trying all the CZ models some twice my problems were virtually non existant but 99 percent of them were indeed los banos models.

Can't say the same about Minelab but the old Minelab U.S.A. was spot on with excellent service and not having used Minelabs since they moved perusing the posts seems like the same can not be said for the Minelab U.S.A. which moved...

As far as I am concerned Minelab produces a fine product which gives you much info and wish you luck in your new endeavors....

I will say that my E-trac was made in Ireland,I don't know if that makes a difference or not. But as far as mine goes it is rock solid. I hope by saying that I didn't jinx it and it will break down on me over the weekend. :lmfao:

Again Harold its a fine unit and I believe all Minelabs are made overseas but could be wrong. I believe Minelab U.S.A. is just a distribution point... Good luck in your ventures ....Dan

I have a CZ5 and yes it has cracks on the battery cover.
But I,m concerned about the inconsistancy You speak of.
I bought My CZ5 used last year,it is an older model with the white lower shaft.
It seems to be very sensitive to iron,so much so that Iv,e wondered about recalibration....
any thoughts or comments on this?
Thanks,and HH,Mont

If your going to get it recalibrated send it to Tom Dankowski. I think he is the best when it comes to analog CZ,s. He did a great job on mine fast and at a resonable cost.

cz5 made by los-banos fisher!! same symptom !!!!!!!!! battery size is the most logical culprit.

very sensitive to iron........does it correctly id all other targets? compare it to a friends?

minelab service/quality better than fisher? not for the past 3 or 4 years, not even close! now made in Malaysia which does not mean thats the reason for poor service or quality, just responding to someones question.

Harold, please let me know after Tom Dankowski gives it a go through, and you want to get rid of it. I could use another CZ. Love them. Use to use Minelab's. All broke now and have replaced with Fisher (original).

I think for now I will hold on to it as it's pretty hot and I'm pulling silver out of sites that I hit with the big E. And as far as shorter battery's it seems like duracell is the shortest 9 volt I could find. And with the duracells it doesn't bow the door out as much just slightly.
