CZ and the AT Pro

I'm sure you guys have now heard of the AT Pro and how good it is in wet salt water and sand. I used the CZ6a for years and it was awesome in salt water beaches. Never have used the AT Pro but just wondering if some of you guys have used this machine and how does it really compare to the CZ's in wet salt sand use. I read the field report but I've never read a bad one either. I also used the Garrett Groundhog for many years and it was a very good machine but not so great in salt water enviroments. Thanks and good hunting. John

EZ did a test of a few beach units recently and gave the edge to the CZ but said he would retest
to be fair.

If you have a CZ land unit there's no reason to get the AT unless your going underwater.

I sold my CZ6a years ago and can kick myself for doing that. I now use an Excal and it does an excellent job in saltwater beaches, it's just that I've thought about the AT Pro as a back up. Have never had any problems with my Excal and I do carry a back up battery pack but I haven't had to use it yet. I have never had any luck using a single frequency machine in saltwater beaches and that's why I asked about the Pro. Thanks and I'll be looking forward to EZ's next test. HH

The AT is a good do all machine. Jim and i went out again today for a hunt. He just got the AT back from Garrett because of the falsing issue. It's better but you can not touch the sand without it falsing. I'm a coil scrubber and would not be able to deal with it. It is deep and IDs very well. But the CZ is more stable in the wet salt IMO. I made a video of the hunt and will post here.

Is that after it came back from the factory? The only time I've had coils I could not touch the sand with were on fixed ground balance detectors where the ground balance was too far off from the wet salt or when I was dealing with a couple of faulty coils.

Haven't used the AT, but from what I've read, if set up right, that response to touching the sand surprises me.

tvr, yes it is doing that after he got it back. The video i posted was the first hunt with it. It is alot better than it was. But the issue is there. Im not the type who like to swing the coil in the air.

The AT is a very good machine. It is deep and balances well in the wet salt. It does work there. It is not a dedicated beach machine. For someone who lives inland away from the shores. Who maybe takes a vacation close or on the beach. It's a perfect all around unit. For us that beach hunt mostly. The CZs "land machines too" & Excals are better day in day out beach machines. I use both Excal and CZ and prefer the CZ. High tide line to low and in the water. For the dry towel line i use a ETrac. <~~~~ I would like to try out a CZ70. The CZs run rock steady and stable where i hunt. I like the silent "quite ride" too.

In my estimation best saltwater beach units are a CZ and a Sov...Never used the AT pro on a saltwater beach but has big shoes to fill and still the new kid on the block. My feeling are why change what ain't broke and seems like multiple freq. units excell on saltwater beaches and am sure once they get the bugs out of the AT pro..Garrett does make a good unit but doubt if it will beat a CZ. Have to mention early AT units from Garrett AT3-AT4 had an interior switch for saltwater beaches but really killed the depth of those units even though they worked well in this enviroment.

Dan, good points. I think at the end of the day. The AT is still a single freq machine. Your also right about being simple. What were after falls into a wide range. If it isn't iron were digging it. So the need for a ton of options, tones and fine discrimination is moot "i do like it in the dry". I truly beleve the AT is what it is. I think it is a very hot sensitive single freq machine and they made it that way.
