CZ 70 versus .....

New member
i;m thinking about buying a CZ 70 from a friend of mine. I was told they're not made anymore. How are the new CZs either better or worse than the CZ 70 ?

I've had a CZ-6A and multiple CZ-3D's looking for a hot one along numerous CZ-70's. I would highly recommend a CZ-70 over older CZ's(in my opinion) just for the relative ease of use, ID capabilities, depth, overall fun, easy pinpointing, and technology. There are many out there who have used them all analog/needle and digital/icons who may beg to differ but you just can't go wrong with a CZ-70. When I go to a new site to get a feel for what's there, this is the one I'd grab every time. If you can get one in nice shape, learn it, use it, enjoy it and smile about the bags of old coins and other goodies you'll end up with like I have...JMHO...HH

Thanks for the advice & good luck wishes. As far as that bag of coins, I'll believe it when I see it. I'm willing to take the time to learn the 70. I'll be sure to post my many (hoped for) successes.
Thanks,

I presently use both the CZ-5 and CZ-70 Pro. The CZ-70 Pro has the notching feature that is lacking on the CZ-5. All the CZ series of detectors are deep seeking and there is the never ending debate of which model is deeper if at all. The CZ-70 Pro is easy to learn to use and you will be amazed at the depth of detection. It has recently been discontinued, but I hear tell that there may still be some available. You might check with Mr. Bill to see if he has any left. Good luck! Kelley (Texas) :)

Here's just one of my many bags of wheaties-that pile weighs 2 pounds 3.4 ounces; there's also a small bag of 1940's Mercs. Sometimes I'll find 50 or more wheats on a hunt at an old house site in a day; many times 3,5, or more in the same hole. I've given at least another pound away of old wheats to property owners...HH

I and some others out there know what I'm talking about , have had a "hot" machine that's better in the iron and a little deeper than the rest. The notching and the backlight are a significant advantage/technology improvement over the analog/needle machines but those machines have their advantages too... so it's really up to the individual to decide what they like the best about a certain machine model and what's most comfortable/important to them...HH

any CZ really is a fun, deep seeking machine to use- CZ-5, CZ-6,6A, 3D(analog) and the digital CZ-7,7A and 70. I personally just like the notching capability, backlight, and the icons of the digital machines overall package/technology over a needle but any of these machines can be in the "hot" category. The point really is that there are a myriad of right opinions about one CZ versus another CZ model-the CZ-70 was just the last digital one made with improvements over the previous model which is still debated...which is OK and part of the fun here in my opinion. I use a 3D as well and do very well with it at sites I've already used my CZ-70...I didn't mean in my first post that the CZ-70 was deeper than the analogs but just a preferable overall package to me for most sites I hunt...nuff said...HH

Goodness! christopher, the "hot" metal detector can show up in any of the CZ models that have been produced, not just the CZ-70 Pro. Your comment is sorta abrasive in that you and a few others know what you are talking about and evidently others do not? I have been using the CZ's since the mid 1990's and have learned a few things about them.

Depth of detection is not solely dependent on having a so called "hot" CZ...factors like skill of the operator, mineralization, proper ground balance, size and type of coil, level of discrimination used, sensitivity settings, and target masking to name a few will all have a bearing on how much depth the operator will achieve with his CZ or any metal detector. Please have a great day! Kelley (Texas) :)

I know that you and many others here are very experienced/more experienced than I, CZ detectorists...that was intended for newer CZ users who may not be aware of this...certainly not a solely CZ-70 phenomena...and not intended to offend of course. I guess I'm just a little exuberant and partial to the CZ-70 and like to spread the word about a nice all round machine.

Just tonight, I sold a used CZ-70 to my 50 year old aunt who had used one of my CZ-70's but has never had a machine of her own until now, after celebrating my mother's 60th...just trying to add to the CZ users family.
Thanks, Kelley, sorry about any questionable intent; it's just hard sometimes to think of all the angles someone may come from when you post something-especially with newer CZ-ers and the very experienced reading the same post...HH

I would have thought so too, but so far no other coins at all. I'll keep looking with the CZ that I borrowed.
Thanks

Heck we could debate the good points of either but either way you have a winner...and we all have our preferences..
I must say after using every model CZ ever made some are hotter than others and although basically user friendly to set up takes a while to learn their language and expertise comes into play as it does make a difference. Lets put it this way if I was strictly hunting for silver coins my CZ6A would be fine, but if I was hunting a park the superior notching of a digital CZ70 would be my choice...
