CZ 70 frustrations.....HELP!!!

I love the depth my CZ 70 gets but the target ID is driving me nuts!!. When it shows a target on coin, on the far right side, a lot of times it is a aluminum can!! The only way I found to descern between can and coin is a short beep and a can covers a larger area than a coin but why does aluminum show up in coin even in the so called preset coin mode? Is it possible it may need tuning or is it supposed to do that? Please help before I throw this in the river!!

Unfortunately that's where aluminum cans show up. You can usually tell by raising the coil, if it's a coin after a couple of inches the signal will disappear, a can will usually hang on for a foot or more on the CZ70.

Cal is right the only thing that you should find besides coins is maybe a aluminum screw cap, anything larger you should be able to size, (how large the target is) but always when your not sure dig. HH:detecting:

Many junk items mimic good targets especially in the lower segmets where tabs and foil mimic gold jewelry. In this case you can usually size as stated by several of the posters. I would advise you to lay an aluminum can on the ground and raise the coil to simulate depth aginst a silver dime and it will be obvious..As far as the lower segments gold rings usually hit harder and imagine a trained ear is a plus with any unit you use but just takes a lot of digging as unlike the can sizing is of little help usually..

From your post you are already starting to figure it out. Size and the detectors ability to sound off on the object are two big clues.
If the digging is easy and the grass is healthy I still dig a lot of them up. Get rid of them, recycle and make the money from the aluminum and then check where they were. These big targets cover up a lot of good little targets under them and close to them.
Tough digging means you just move on. You will find that these huge signals will show up and you will start to use them almost like a road map of your hunting areas. One of the best stories was a group of guys who always hunted an old church yard. They all hit this piece of pipe and they all learned to ignore it. They even talked about it among themselves and then one day a guy decided to dig the pipe to see if it was masking anything. The pipe turned out to be a full roll of silver quarters that had been dropped and spread out
in a straight line in the grass. Time buried them and they became "a piece of pipe". These are some of the things that make it challenging
Don't give up on your CZ, it is one of the best.

HH, Don

Thanks to all that responded. I feel a lot better and more confident about my detector and my abilities. I just have to hang with it and learn it. I was just concerned that I might have a bad detector and would have to get it tuned. I understand it now and I am still impressed on how deep it goes using an 8" coil!! Thanks again.
