CZ-7 Headphones Won't work

Buried Crap NJ

New member
Hey guys and girls I picked this unit up today from my local detector shop. I have used him for 20 years. He had this use CZ-7 for a good price I bought it. It came with the external speaker which works fine. But when I plug in my good set of Stereo phones it won't work. I have tried two different sets and nothing. He gave me a brand new set with the machine and they work fine. These are both mono and stereo and only work in the stereo mode? What gives the other headsets work in all my other detectors. Whites, Garrett, Compass. Any tips on the machine would be a great help as i haven't own a land fisher unit. steve

When I got my CZ6a and first plugged in the headset nothing. Slight panic. I could see the detector ID targets on the meter, but no sound (CZ6a does not have a speaker).

Plugged the headset into my Cibola and they were fine. Cibola and the other Tesoros like it set to mono.

Once I switched the setting to Stereo, the CZ6a came through the headset just fine.

So I need to make sure I set the switch to the right setting for the detector I'm plugged into.

Not sure why a stereo only headset would not work; I haven't tried one on my detectors. I've got selectable mono/stereo ones.

Was thinking that maybe the stereo headsets are low impedance like 8 ohms. May drag the drive circuit down.

I've got 32 ohm headphones that are not very loud with the CZ6a. The headset I use most with the CZ6a can get too loud when set full volume are 60 ohm and fairly efficient.

A listing for Fisher headphones show: Fisher Phones, 300 ohm, deluxe, ultra-quiet stereo part number 9720971. If they are similar to the ones hard wired to the CZ20, even with waves around, they can knock you off your feet on a shallow quarter with the volume into the deep target boost range.
