CZ-6 did well!

Thanks to your help, I was able to get the old CZ-6 up and running! Took it out for a test drive (as well as against some metal objects to make sure it still worked) and got some tones! I tried the original headphones (despite one side being broken) and they worked as well. I will be investing in a jack so that I can plug in my own headphones.

I originally set it to the factory settings (red numbers) but decided to try the auto-tune just for kicks and giggles and was able to get a high sound! I tried to dig something up but couldn't pin point the exact location, nor could I pinpoint how deep it was. Therefore, after digging an entirely too large hole, I didn't find anything. I'm chalking it up to either the deep penetrating ground power picking up pipes or the soil (speaking of, do ya'll know if my detector would pick up micah, the foil type mineral?).

Since I know the basics of it now, I will be trying it out on my property in the mountains where there is a lot of history! More posts to follow with finds and/or progress!

Thanks again,
Miss E.

Welcome aboard here and glad to read you got the CZ6 going!

CZ5 manual that you down loaded will get you going. In case you did not run across the thread where Dan PA recently posted it, do a google search for "Mike's CZ page" and you will find links to some very good tips.

And, if in doubt, ask here and maybe be a little patient. There are several experienced users here, but many are busy and it may be a couple hours, a day or even two days sometimes before you get a lot of feedback.

Have fun with Pop Pop's detector. I'm sure he is smiling!
Cheers,
tvr

PS Mica is generally an insulator, non-conductive, so I don't think you will pick mica up with your detector. If a piece of mica is bonded to something metal, then you might find it with the detector.

Gotcha, I will research that web page.

And thanks, I understand everyone has a life ;) Lord knows I have three jobs! Haha, will be doing more research and head out to look probably by the weekend. Thanks again!

Hello Miss E The auto tune mode has no discrimination so it may be very noisy. You might be better to put the disc on the number 0 , that way you would only have to hear 3 tones low ,medium, and high if your looking for coins and jewelry just focus on the medium and high tones. HH Tony

Ahh that makes sense. I did read about it picking up a lot of stray signals while on the auto tune mode, but didn't realize it would give me a hit almost right away. I will try the disc set at 0. It seems this detector is a bit more sophisticated than I first though, it is able to give a tone for the different types of metal and even tells me what it will be and how deep to dig. Very pleased so far. Thanks Tony!

Hello all! Update on the CZ-6. I took it out to my property in rural Western NC and had a wonderful time! I was only out about an hour or so but managed to find three things: an old dog lead, what I believe was a smashed tin can, and a "V" shaped metal (probably from a tractor or lawnmower). Nevertheless, I count my hunt successful!

My only problem was that I had trouble actually pinpointing the source of the many hits I got. I had at least a dozen hits and dug at least ten holes but only found the three things. I think I need to practice a little at seeing where the hits actually are instead of digging a huge hole. I intend on investing in a pinpointer and giving myself a little more practice. Hopefully, I will be finding those coins and such in no time!

Thanks again and I will keep y'all posted on future hunts!
Miss E

Hi Miss E, Happy Hunting AKA HH!
The CZ5 manual is fine for the 6. You never mentioned coil size, small is easier to pinpoint and less prone to electrical interference (EMI). It is easier to use the pinpoint button for most users to find the loudest spot and dig in the center of the coil circle. You might try backing up and gently swinging a pattern about 6 inches side to side moving forward the where the object starts to sound and then turning 90 degrees backing off 6-8 inches and nosing forward again. Marking with you eye where the sound begins. That should be real close to where the object lies. Lifting the coil while centered over that spot (still going side to side 6 inches) until the sound fades is a way to test depth/size. Practice and with time you will be able to double check the meter or not even need to look at it and know what and where you target is.
I have dug thousands of coins and everything else and I still get a charge every time the system works and I pull a lost item from its hiding place! It is a great hobby (addiction?) for those with time and opportunity.
Be safe, smart and successful!
Tom

Sounds like you just need more time " behind the wheel" of the CZ. Soils can vary greatly in your area, so be sure to ground balance .
