I'm kinda new to the fisher cz forum. My cz-5 has been setting on the shelf for about 2 years because a few years ago I hunted about 6 hours straight with it and my arm just collapsed on me and I started using lighter detectors. You guys are making me rethink to going back to ole faithful, only this time using it as hip mounted. I was basically a coin shooter then and would like some ideas on how you guys use yours for jewelry, etc-is it a good gold and jewelry machine?

i hip mount everything because i have torn cartilage in both shoulders.iv had 2 CZ5's and loved them.very good detector.iv found many earing stud backs with them,so they are good on small gold! i use an army surplus bag for a canteen and it works great.$9 good luck

Slingshot.

I hip mount my 6a with every coil except the small 5 inch. When on the beach using it, I have the Sunray 12 on it so I HAVE to hip mount it. What I use costs a little more, but I find it to be the most confortable. I got a utility belt at Home Depot ( or Lowes...can't remember where). It is black, and has both velcro and belt buckle on it. It has a 2 inch nylon belt that runs through belt hoops, and the loops are attached to the , which is tapered and wider at the back for lower back support. It also has padding which makes it good for comfort and support.

I can post a pic later...at work now.

As far as gold and jewelry, it works great. I mostly use the 6a in all metal mode and switch over to discrim to see if it is iron. Some of my gold jewelry gives the iron/mid tone bounce so you have to watch. Some of the smaller gold may not sound off in discrim mode but have a slight warble in autotune that makes for a diggable target.

I found a gold ring with it about a month ago, with the small coil. I was digging all mid tone and high tones. One good thing about the CZ's and the 3 tones is that if you are only interested in trying to get the gold, you can just dig the mid tones only. If I am on the beach, and there is lots of clad and it's getting near the end of the day and I haven't had much luck with the gold, I can save some time and not dig the high tones and only focus on the mid tones. I loose the clad and possible silver, but it is an option if you are running short on time.

Thanks. I am basically a coin hunter but I am realizing that I am passing up things that could amount to a lot of coins! I really don't know what happened, but my arm was really aching from 6 hours of searching and then all of a sudden it just collapsed and I had to hunt left handed for about a month. It took about a year to heal to the point where I could use it for searching again. Thank goodness for the Tesoro umaxes and their light weight. But as time passes on, I am beginning to realize that maybe the CZ with the mid tones may be the ticket for rings and jewelry-it certainly is for nickels.

I REALLY LIKE MY CZ-5.IT'S THE GREATEST ON NICKELS.IF YOU GUYS WERE GOING FOR A LIGHTER MACHINE THAT WOULD SEPARATE PENNYS,DIMES,QUARTERS,AND HIGHER,AND STILL FIND NICKELS MOST OF THE TIME,WHAT MACHINE WOULD YOU GET?
