I have owned and used both the ID Excel and CZ5.I think the CZ5 is a much better detector in Michigan.It has better depth,pinpoints with less effort,and there are different search coils available for the CZ5.The ID Excel is limited to a eight inch coil.I think the ID Excel performs better in red clay,conditions that I encountered in Virginia. Ron
i have both and this is just my own personal opinion 
...
i use the cz 5 primaririly at the beach where it rocks(as do all fisher dual freq. machines,of course ) and of course it does do the excel for depth...
BUT..i prefer the excel for landhunting for these reasons..
1. superiour target seperation and iron abilities
2. the MUCH better target id resolution
get both and your covered..the excel is a very underated machine,tho it gets excellent reviews by almost all who have used/owned one..

Anton,I agree the ID Excel is a very underrated metal detector.Both are the same horses. Fisher high performance thoroughbreds for different track conditions Ron
