CZ 3D

Considering the 3d for coin and relic hunting. Need some advice on how it compares to other Fishers. I've owned a 1266 and 1270 and thought they were great machines. Thanks in advance. John

Hey John,
The CZ3D is an excellent machine. You have to run the sensitivity
high and dig the repeatable tones. I've increased my silver quanity
by using this machine but you must run sensitivity high.Sometimes
can be a little noisy but just turn the discriminator up a notch or two.
I don't have experience with any other fishers but use an explorer xs
for a few years but I'm really liking my cz3d.I use a detectorpro
uni-probe with my fisher and I feel this is one heck of a combo.

John the CZ3D will give you tone ID. The CZ probably hits harder on silver dimes than the 1200 series.A lot of hunter's complain about the enhanced mode in modern parks,I didn't think it was that much of a problem. The sensitivity can be cranked up on this unit without it being eratic. This detector has great depth and it works great with a five inch coil.I think you'll like the CZ3D.

Basically I never used a 1270 but know it was ill weighted as it had a big control box to knock off the ergonomics and handled one several times at planted hunts from dealers stands so I can't make any comment on its hunting ability. Have used the 1266 and every CZ model ever made so here goes...1266 is a little heavier but with batteries under armcup has super ergonomics and excellent battery life, but very noisy unit. Depth is probably a tossup depending on your mineralization...As far as other CZ's just as deep in advanced mode and in regular mode its just a typical CZ in salt mode so you may lose a hair in depth or likeness for gold jewelry. Not enough to be worried about..For the fellows that hunts extremely old places with little junk the advanced mode can be a killer as some of its segments have been widened to get more by digging more but with a switch of a toggle you basically have an typical older CZ analog CZ. Sort of two machines in one..
Right now the CZ3D is the only one manufatured so its the only one that can be bought new unless you find an old stock CZ5 or CZ70 from a dealer. Lots of good deals on used CZ's..Good choice in my mind and am sure you will like as its user friendly and deep like any typical CZ. Last but not least the decals are a little gaudy to some and some like them but of no consequence to the workings of the unit...

I will agree with Dan those decals just don't look right.I have a CZ5 and without those ridiculous decals it looks much better. The decals looks like something a flower child would create.

I just posted a photo of some dimes that I found today and the 1951 dime had a nail on top of the dime at 5". Not alot of ddetectors will do this, but the 3d will.

If your the same Johnny from other posts here, there is a post below where you tested a CZ70 on gold coins and showed where they read. Did you do this also on the 3D? I was wondering if they all read up into the coin range, a high tone?

Nice find with the silver coin with the nail. Ive always read CZs are terrible around iron but your find shows otherwise.

Well done,
Neil

Jon,you still could have picked up the nail and the dime(The CZ has an appetite for iron nails) .The biggest problem with the CZ is to determine that the nail isn't a deep silver coin.

Considering your basic U.S. gold coins they can read anywhere from Foil for a dollar version to coins all for a 20 dollar version..Now if you get into foreign variatons expect them to come in all over the meter. As far as finding the nail and silver coin would feel the CZ read both the rusty nail and silver coin rather than rejecting the nail as they do like deep rusty nails. With time in the field and reading Mikes CZ page you should learn how to avoid digging them and only dig one perhaps going for a deep iffie and after many years of experience heck I still get fooled now and then...

Earlier today, I recovered a 35s Mercury at 4" and right beside it was a pull tab. My cz3d read them both.

Especially in the nickle and gold ring facets as it may very well be a gold ring..Depending on the position, size, of course a CZ will bounce between the two targets...What we are basically talking about is a discriminated object masking out a non-discriminated target.

I'm with you. I dig all bouncers. I mostly land hunt and those bouncers have accounted for 8 gold rings for me in 06.

One way to check those iron-coin signals is to use a
periscope probe which will let you know instantly if
it's iron or non-ferrous material.The periscope probe
is a great tool for this job as you will see your silver finds increase but the only problem is that these periscopes are hard to find these days!!!!
