Have been considering giving the 21 a try. One thing i notice is the frail looking headphone cable as compared to the excal and the thin, exposed wires running to the earcups. Does anyone know if there are any issues with the headphones or cables? Is a headphone swap recommended? Thanx.....

They are thin wire but they work fine and are very loud. If you set it on 10 beware... They seem to be pretty durable thus far I bought my unit in September. I was worried about the exposed wires too but it doesnt seem to be a problem just dont go tugging on them and it should be fine.

I have only ever seen one fisher cz20 with a headphone issue over the years...many xcal's.

i have a cz20 and a excal, both are about the same age. the excal headphones have failed and the jacket of the inner wires inside the outer jacket are brittle and broken about every 1/4 inch. the cz20 is still going strong. have not had a problem with the thin exposed wires on the cz20 headphones.
chuck.

Never had an issue with mine. However, on some the little rubber plug has come out of the back of the earcup. When the wind blows it causes a wistle/roar in the ears. A little piece of electrical tape over the hole works wonders.

Don't worry about the headphones on the 20 or 21 have had both for several years the CZ's are built like a tank

The plug is tethered in the cup. It was probably pushed in and is not gone. You should be able to grab it with a bent piece of wire and find it again. It is probably not gone

I had a CZ-20 and when I sent it in to be repaired . They upgraded me to a CZ-21 and I don't like it thee machine was sent in for repair again on the headphones and a battery seal problem and I only was able to hunt for 1 month last year . The issues that I have with the machine is that they removed the light that came with my CZ-20 as I needed it for locating items in the water because of not being able to hear in one ear and only 50% in the other ear it makes it harder for me to located items that are good .

Yes. The leds are gone in the CZ-21. That must be hard for you for sure. You might want to advertise on here to trade a 21 for a 20? Just a thought. Also maybe you can call Felix at Fisher and EXPLAIN your situation. I don't know if they can increase the volume on the machine with some kind of enhancement or not. I can't see why not. If you want me to do some research I will be happy to.

I have a good working 20 with a 8" coil. Great machine. I would be willing to trade BUT, maybe there is a better alternitive like I said. I really think the parts in a 21 are made in CHINA, Nobody will confirm or deny it though. PM me if you would like me to contact First Texas for you. Will be happy to see what I can do.
