CZ-21 vs 1280-X aquanaut:fisher:

OK, can someone please educate me with the difference of these two machines, I own the :fisher:1280-x and wondering would it be worth an upgrade to the :fisher:CZ-21.

Depends on what you want out of the hobby. I have both an haven't used the 1280 in years. For one thing the CZ21 is deeper, has a pinpoint button if you use that, Three different tones to id the target. With the 1280 you get one tone so you don't know if it is iron, pull tab/nickel/gold ring or a higher coin. The CZ21 can be set on Zero disc so you hear 3 different tones and only dig the mid tones which are the pull tabs and gold rings. 90% of the gold rings come in at the pull tab range. Time spent digging iron and silly coins is time not spent sweeping for the good stuff.

Also the CZ21 or older 20 has a overload signal if something large or to close to the coil comes up it lets you know. Get this detector with the larger coil for the best coverage. Neither of these detectors can report on a thin gold chain as well as the Tiger Shark will, but the Tiger can also find bird shot. :fisher:

CZ just works better in saltwater enviroments and the 1280 has been one of the best freshwater units for many years. As far as gold chains ( especially thin ones) tough for any unit to pick up unless in all metal and most are found because of a medalion or being bunched up in a ball. Have heard of various problems with a CZ because of a pinpoint button that dont hold up and the 1280 seems to be trouble free with little or no problems..

The 1280 does a great job of cancelling salt due to its frequency of 2.45 VF [Voice Frequency] and is super deep.
There are many books out on this unit in salt, and it has been used by treasure salvors on many Spanish
wrecks-you can occasionally see it being used in video on these wrecks.
It was only after the advent of the CZ-20 that people started saying it was a fresh water detector-
It just does not have as many features as the CZ, and the ground balance is internal.:detecting:

Some units just work better in wet salt sand than others..and certainly a noisy 1280 can be used, but with a CZ20 its locked in salt mode and can be ground balanced to negate some of the effects of we salt sand..Again indeed the 1280 has certainly been one of the best freshwater units available but a CZ20 is the one to use in wet salt sand conditions..Been there done that my friend....

1280 is AWSOME DONT GET RID OF IT IT IS A GREAT MACHINE REALLY I HAVE NOTHING TO SAY BAD ABOUT THAT MACHHINE SOME OF MY GREATEST FINDS HAVE BEEN WITH THE 1280 X I AM BUYING THE NEW C-Z 21 I HOPE ITS AS GREAT ? 1280 X ROCKSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS

I just don't personally know about the 21, but have had a couple 1280's.

There must be something magical about them...
Batteries may last longer in a 1280x than sitting on a shelf!:biggrin

I did have difficulty with falsing in the soup, on black sand ocean beaches here in CA.
No probs on the dry, or in deeper water.

Best
