CZ-21 headphones

Hi Guys! Nice forum, lots of good info!

This is my first post. I started detecting just 2 months ago. I use Fisher GB Pro with Ultimate 13'' coil.
Absolutely love it but I tried it on low tide salt water beach and it was almost impossible to hear any target - too much chatter. So I did some reading and learned about multi-frequency machines.

As I live close to the Pacific shore I am thinking now to buy a second detector and so far after hours of reading I think I will love CZ-21.
My concern is the headphones. For my GBP I use in-ear phones with volume control. CZ-21 has permanently attached headphones as I understand. And the only way to change volume is to use regulator that is located on the base. That regulator has some boost above lvl 5, so it is not a simple volume control. So my question is:

What do you guys do if you want to boost faint signals but the sound is too loud in general. Let's say it is too loud for you at lvl 4 already but in order to hear faint targets you have to crank it even more.

Not sure if I explained it clear. English is not my first language. :)

I would appreciate any answer!

past the preset volume lvl 5, the boost mode just boosts faint signals if I recall correctly. at lvl 10, everything is loud regardless of how deep it is. don't overthink it, the CZ20/21 is a great machine.

In order to hear faint targets at lover volume I'd like to be able to change volume independently of the "boost".
Or just forget about faint targets. Do you guys use the boost often?

Well. I guess I just need to try them. I'll call my local store and ask if they have a demo.

Happy Hunting!!!

If you are not going into the water I'd say any other CZ (not 20/21) is the way to go. You can change coils and also use your same headphones plus its is a lighter unit that can switch in or out of salt setting. The non-salt will get you better depth on dry to damp sand. Use salt when you have too much mineralization to ground balance with any stability. Just 2 cents more of opinion.
Best of luck!

Few years back I didn't run too much into the boost, now, for beach hunting, I run full boost and dig pretty much what ever the detector finds that isn't obviously iron. The CZ 20 headphones can sound off pretty loud; that is good when it is windy and there is high water noise (waves crashing). It can also make ears ring in a target dense environment. Figure out what works for you. Over time what works may change.

For your Gold Bug Pro, did you try running all metal mode at the beach? Make sure you are ground balanced properly. Most single frequency detectors I've used at a salt water beach tend to run much better for me in all metal mode as long as the detector will ground balance to the beach conditions. Since the beach can change a good bit, keep on top of the ground balance with the single frequency detector. A smaller coil than the 13 inch coil might help handle the beach ground conditions too.

The CZ's don't need a lot of adjusting during a hunt; set it up and go.

Thank tvr! Yes, I tried all metal and ground balanced... and I tried to manually ground balance from 0 to max. I also tried my stock 5 inch coil. Some inlet beaches are ok but open ocean beaches are way too "chatty".

I search underwater, so yes, I use full boost @ 10. basically, set disc @ 0 and dig anything other than a solid low...anything bouncing from a low into mid or high (mixed low-mid or low-high) is a dig.
