CZ-21 Disc, to pinpoint

midalake

TROLL
Ok I have the new CZ-21 working pretty good at first, then working between Disc. 0 and pinpoint, sometimes the machine would have a constant threshold after switching, sometimes it seemed out of ground Balance. Is there is method of how far off the sand one should make these changes between Disc. and Pinpoint???? The machine did not want to run stable with switching back and forth. And by the way how the H is one supposed to know how good the batteries are with no lights?????

Refer to Pg. 10/11 in manual, Batt. Test. You will be listening for tone and pitch to determine Batt. condition
without the lights.

Yep, read the manual 10/11 for the battery check.
The ground balance was not set if your getting a threshold during disc mode.
It also sounds like you may have your sensitivity up just a bit too high if you are
unstable between the Disc and Pinpoint modes. Most beaches that I've hunted on
your lucky to be able to have your sens up to about 50-60% of max.

G.B.
You'll probably want to pump the coil up and down toward the ground as in the manual ( All metal mode )
while adjusting your ground balance, after the GB seems to be set and there is no threshold
continue to turn it and you will then notice that the threshold comes back but instead of sounding off when pushing the coil to
ground it will now give a threshold in reverse when pulling the coil away from the ground.
Now, set the GB knob in the center of this threshold difference and you will then have near perfect ground balance.
If you are on the beach with this you will be setting your GB if you go between wet / dry sand and then sometimes again if you are in the surf. The chatter that you'll get from waves washing over the coil at the surf line is completely normal and all brands of detectors will experience this.

I was working with the sensitivity between 4 and 5. I re read the book and may have been changing the mode from hunt to pinpoint too close to the object. Also is it better to lift the coil off the ground some to do the switch? Because there is where the problem was. If I kept the coil on the sand and change modes it seemed at times it was all messed up. Nothing but a loud tone in both modes. I had to shut the machine off several times and reset the whole process. When hunting in Auto mode do you try to get the threshold as close to possible before breaking or is it not as important as other machines maybe?

OK, I don't have a CZ21; I've got a CZ6a and a CZ20. Running sensitivity 4 to 5 sounds like a reasonable range. Needing to power off reset the detector to quiet a loud tone in both modes and it then comes up OK for a while ??? I have not needed to raise the coil to pinpoint.

Something doesn't sound right. I'd suggest calling the factory service folks and stepping through what you have tried and experienced with it.

One of the things I really like about the CZ's at the salt water beach is that unless the sensitivity is too high (to the point of falsing a lot on every part of the beach), or the ground balance is way off, they don't light up on the waves washing over them; at least mine haven't. Pretty deep, easy to use and largely bullet proof.

Hope you get everything working well.

I know when I used to run a CZ6a seemed to get better depth in Normal over Salt mode. Never have used the CZ20. Thanks and good hunting.....

I have both also, and almost always, unless venturing into the deeper water, use my 6a on the beach. That's due to the fact that if I can GB and run stable in normal mode, I do. It's more sensitive to gold. And them being weather and splash proof means not worries if I am in the suds or rain and get some water on it.

When you get into the semi wet sand or venture into the dry, you can turn from salt to normal and have that extra punch for gold.

Also, you can swap out the coils. There have been times when I was glad I brought the smaller coils for the 6a...my CZ20 has the 10.5 inch coil and sometimes there are spots where the smaller 8 and 5 inch coils would work better but I was SOL due to the hardwired CZ20 and that was the only unit I brought with me.

The CZ20 is still a super unit, and one of the best for water hunting. I just like my 6a the best out of all my detectors.

Ground balance as described above and in your manual. Adjust sensitivity so that you have the max you can tolerate. You should get few false responses if set correctly. forget the pinpoint mode. it is useless or nearly so. Instead just switch to Auto tune mode to locate your taqrget. it is more precise and simpler. I hunt mostly in Auto tune because it hits deeper targets. if i want to discriminate i simple twist the knob to disc "0" to hear the tone. Mostly I already know from years of using it. I have CZ 20 and 21. find both about the same.
