CZ-21 Coil Sizes

Smudge

Any preference between the 10" and the 8"?

I would not be doing a lot of hunting in the surf. Mostly wet and dry sand.

Reason: the surf around here is often very rough.

I would imagine the 10" covers more ground (obviously) and goes deeper, but the 8" seems likely to be more sensitive to smaller targets.

Does anyone here prefer the 8" coil?

For me it's due to a lot of reasons, including coil control and the ability to get the coil all the way into the hole after one big scoop. Also, since I have my CZ's mounted on straight shafts, I don't use the pin point button and the 8 inch for me is a lot easier to pin point with my just Xing the target.

I'm curious. Why did you have the pinpoint button disabled? Was it too inaccurate with the 10" coil?

Don't know about scubadetector ... but on my CZ20, when there were cracks in the surface of the pinpoint button, it got removed and hole plugged so that it would not eventually leak and destroy the detector.

I like the 8 inch on the CZ20, but if I never went into the water, I might go with a 10 inch. And yes, a big scoop makes a hole that you can get the 8 inch coil down into, but it takes a lot of big scoops to get the bigger coil down into.

With my CZ6A. at the beach, I go with a big coil most of the time. If the trash levels on the beach start coming up, I go to the smaller coil for target separation. In dirt the 5 inch and 8 inch get used, I seldom use the big coil over dirt due to trash and masking.

the new style would hit my tank or BC while it was hipmounted and would go into pinpoint mode. LOL HATED that. I never used it anyway since I hipmount my machines ALL the time and I know EXACTLY where the beep is on my machine so its super simple to know where to dig. I guess after 6 years of using the critter, you get to know it quite well.
