Tired of waiting for the rain to stop so I put on a rain jacket and headed to the beach. I thought maybe there would be a little more a rosian than there was having been raining the past few days but I still grabbed 10 quarters, 8 dimes, 3 nickels, 20 pennies, a junk earring and a stainless steel ring. Most everything seemed to be about a foot deep today with the exception of my best find which was a quarter at maybe 6 or 8 in deep but right next to a 2 inch long at nail. I've heard it said on these forums that the CZ's have trouble with iron masking, I have not found that to be the case.

CZ 21 Beach hunt

You did better than me...i hit the beach last weekend , most good targets were in the frozen sand and not diggable..still felt good getting out though...

Monday was a beautiful day in my neighborhood. Had a couple of appointments so I arrived at the beach a bit before low tide. Beach looked like a 250-300 yard wide pancake.
Hit the wash zone for a couple of city blocks. then tried a ripple trough. Two hours into a three hour hunt my Xcal had just hummed. Not a single target of any kind
When I did hit a target it surprised me. Dug a quarter that was at least 7 inches deep and then for the next hour nothing. I think I had a total of six pieces of junk. Dug them just to get rid of them
So I drove 64 miles round trip and detected for three hours for a clad quarter. I knew that beach would be difficult but did not think it would be that bad.

With the unusually cold Winter, no one is going to the beach except metal detectorist's so unless there is a storm out at sea to stir everything up and creating nice cut's on the beach, it's really not worth detecting. The only people I see are health nut's running up and down, a few die-hard surfer's braving the cold and a few homeless ppl looking for aluminum cans to cash in for booze money. I can't wait for the temps to rise and Spring and Summer to come, then we'll see the number of good targets climbing up again!
CZ's really don't have much of a problem with iron (especially shallow iron), if you run in disc 0 and allow yourself to listen to the iron.
Deep iron does false as high tone on occasion, but deep targets for the most part should be dug if there is any indication of the signal bouncing into the mid tone or high tones frequently.
Gotta slow the sweep speed down and attack the target from multiple angles and use the VCO pin point to try to size the target.
Also, once you get familiar with the nuances of the high tone, it can help finalize a dig/no dig decision.

I'm getting familiar with it by digging pretty much everything to see what the detector is telling me. I'm spending equal amounts of time using auto tune and zero in disc mode. So far, I don't think I've hit a target in Auto tune that I couldn't get in disc mode. Deepest so far since it came home from the doctor was a 2" long nail at 19" deep. And no doubt that there was a target. Loud and clear high tone low tone bounce.
