CZ-21 Auto or Disc?

I was at the beach today and was running Auto Tune 10 sensitivity 10 ground 10 volume. I hit a target and I could barely hear it. I switched over to disc and it hit loud and clear Mid tone. I always heard Auto Tune was deeper then Disc mode but with what happened today I have my doubts. I usually hunt in Auto Tune but now I am wondering If I am missing targets because of it?

It may depend on the particular detector and component tolerances even when tuned optimally. My CZ6A and CZ20 do well hunting auto tune. Of my two CZ's; the CZ6A is a strong hit on autotune and sometimes iffy on discriminate on the deep ones. The CZ20 falses badly on higher sensitivity in discriminate mode, but is about as deep and strong hitting in discriminate mode with lowered sensitivity as it is in autotune at high sensitivity.

There may also be some affect by how well you hear the indicators. The autotune sound is significantly different in how it is listened for target identification that the discrimination audio sound. When I first started hunting with a PI detector, I could not find any deeper targets. The more I hunted with a PI the better I got at hearing deeper targets. That learning translated very well for me to the CZ in autotune. Also, I hear the CZ autotune and fluctuations indicating a target well. In contrast, there are some threshold frequencies on some detectors I've used that I do not hear well at all. Just a thought.

My cz hits deeper in disc mode, sens at 5, than auto tune at sens 10. Sometimes PP won't reach deep targets that disc mode picks up easly. Like machines will vary....wish they didn't.

And 10 volume? Diving yes, above water? Would blow my ears off. I always use disc 0 or 1 but thats my prefrence.

Yes ... with the CZ20 I have it is painful hitting shallow targets and nearly all targets when in maximum boost. Normally run the CZ20 at about 7 for volume and on shallow / big targets raise the coil to reduce the blast. Running into boost on the volume sure does help bring out the deeper targets. With the CZ6A, when at the beach, volume is at 10 to take full advantage of the boost and I turn the volume control on my headset down some to reduce the peak and let the boost take care of bringing out the deep targets. I don't run much boost at all, with a volume of 6, when over dirt. Just my preferences at this point.
Cheers,
