CZ-21 Amazing

I'm a long time detectorest. Started out with a discovery 5500. Had a F75 and Tesoro Tiger shark, Traded them in for a ETrac when they first came out. I havent looked back since. The Tiger was a good machine and found the small shallow gold. It just didnt do well on depth and falsing. The ETrac has been my do all machine. Silver in the parks and gold/plat on the beaches here. Making enough finds to pay for the ET twice in the last year. Both beach and parks, I really wanted a dedicated water machine to use in the surf/wet salt sand. I picked up a used but new "built this year" CZ-21" for a great price. While the ET is great at selective hunting in the dry sand and did well in the wet. The CZ runs away in rock solid performance. Sens set at 10 this thing was having me dig deeper than i ever had with the ET in the wet salt sand, Solid hits and easy to use. Although more trash was dug i feel this machine was made for this environment. This thing just hammers the deep stuff with more gas to go. Solid, deep and stable! Did i mention Stable??? I was running my sens at 10 on the wet salt sand and not even a peep of falseing. Deep? 3 full scoops on a pull tab WTH? The ET struggles on the wet salt sand to PP a deep target. Not the CZ.

I know in autotune ( ie, all metal) 10 can be used, but my CZ20 can't run at 10 in discriminated mode...not without falsing and using a really slow sweep speed.

It still goes deep and runs stable though, even at less than 8 on the sensitivity setting.

JC, yes i was in dis mode. My local beach isn't a surf type of beach but gets alot of people. I have been wanting a CZ for some time after we had a get together in my area. One of the things we did is have a shoot out at this same beach in the wet sand. It was more of a depth test to see how deep the different machines could hit.

At 10 it was falsing a little. But compared to my ETrac with high manual sens. It was very stable.

On the beach you can get away with running the disc wide open, on land forget it. 4-5 is about is high as you want to go before you get to much falsing.
Congrats on your success with that 3D, its one of main main machines also. In almost 25 yrs of hunting, it found me my fist SLQ this summer!

Glad to hear the CZ-21 is working so well for you.
Just sent my CZ-20 in for repair and upgrade to CZ-21.

I'm think about doing the same with mine. Did they give you a projected turn-around time, and is the cost $350?

Really? I had no idea this could be done. How much is it for the upgrade?

The cost for repairing my CZ-20 (bad coil cable) and upgrading to the CZ-21 was under $300.
I would recommend you do this before they up the price.
Turnaround time was about one week.

I'm a excalibur hunter/user/lover, but in the lakes, and the Chesapeake Bay I will only use the CZ20 by far the Best detector for these area's for me. I would not trade my little 8 inch cz for anything....I agree, A great detector.................joe

i use a cz-5 at present time, but was thinking of getting a better beach machine. have any of you compared acz-21 with a soverign gt.thank you

Patch,

Since you already run a CZ5, the CZ 21 would be zero learning curve. The Sov GT is a great unit, but threshold based, multi tones and has some other options I believe like iron mask on/off, etc. It's not, however, water proof, so if you are going to beach hunt, especially on salt water beaches, you have to make sure it's covered well. In addition, you can't totally submerge it or give it a good fresh water bath like the CZ21.

My friend uses his GT and Excal on the beaches and has come to use them exclusively. He is used to them. He bought a CZ21 and did not like it much...wasn't used to the silent search and the small 8 inch coil. It's not that he thinks the unit is bad...he knows its a great unit...he just can't get used to it and feels much more comfortable with his GT

I think the only thing you would have to do if you buy a CZ21, is decide which coil you want. If you have used both the 8 inch and 10.5 inch on your CZ-5, then you have an idea what may be better for you.

Over the years running my CZ's on the salt water beaches here in NJ, I have come to love the 8 inch coil. I think the depth between the 8 and 10.5 is nominal, I feel the pin pointing and easier control of the 8 inch coil is better, and I seem to find better stuff with it. I also think I can run the unit with a bit more sensitivity in discriminate mode without falsing.

If I had one wish for the CZ20/21, it would be the ability to change coils.

The CZ-5 aint no slouch at the beach.
Dual frequency and very good discriminator.
You wont leave much behind with that machine.
Just take it slow and got good coverage.

You might want to get as big coil for it.
Not for more depth ... but for more coverage.
You will cover more beach with each swing.
More beach searched equals more finds.
