CZ-20 to CZ-21 Conversion

Since Fisher no longer supports the CZ-20 they offer to make
your old CZ-20 into a state-of-the-art CZ-21 for about $300.
This is money well spent indeed! The service is well worth the price.
Even when I developed a minor problem with with the battery holder
they asked no questions and are mailing a replacement holder free of charge.
Pictures speak louder than words.
These two rings were found on South Carolina beaches within a month of each other.

All I can say CZ20 series have been a top of the line water unit for years and excells in saltwater also. Actually thought the CZ21 basically focused on an improved pinpoint button but wrong again as must be a complete remake...Perhaps CZ's will never die at least the water units...

I sent my CZ-20 in to be repaired and they said that I had to upgrade to the CZ-21 even tho I had a lifetime warranty I had to fight them to get my machine upgraded with the warranty and I haven't found any gold with the machine since they sent it back to me I think that they sent it back without the ability to find gold and I think that they are not a good company to do business with because of this .

Well Mike, that's a pretty bold statement, and one I'd have to question, since it's east enough to test it. If you GB the detector, then lay a gold ring down, will the detector sound off on it? Will it hit a nickle? What does your detector do when you set it on a cardboard box, outside, away from wiring and other electrical noise, and do an air test? Set sens at 10, volume 10, disc 0, and air test a dime, quarter, and a gold ring. What's it do?

If it's working here, it will sound off if the coil goes over gold when you're detecting. If it doesn't, contact Fisher. You have a warranty, and they will take care of it.

I have recieved my machines back from them with problems before BUT that is a problem I haven't heard!!. If your finding aluminum and lead, you will still find gold. Maybe your coil just hasn't gone over any??

First Texas has had their share of problems BUT, they are a good company and very good to deal with.

In order to find gold, your coil has to go over it period!!!!

Hello. I had a very long break from Metal Detecting because of two back surgeries. I have a few questions.

- Does Fisher still honor the life time warranty on the CZ-20?
- What is the difference between the CZ-20 & CZ-21?
- Is it worth the $300 dollar price to upgrade to a CZ-21? Do they completely upgrade my CZ-20 or send me a new unit?

Thanks for your time and help!

Even in the water gold is still not easy to find, and if your hunting in a regularly pounded area....you better dig everything.... even if its iffy 2 way signals & ect.
Remember also...in fresh water, the CZ21 is permanently locked into salt mode so it won't be as sensitive to the small gold either like the Excalibur.

i echo those sentiments!..the cz-20 has been around longer than the minelab excalibur!
it has been, and continues to be in cz-21 form, one of the "best" if not "the" best saltwater detectors ever made!
extremely good build quality, and an "outrageous" gold finder!..just sayin'

Here is the email with my RMA# removed that I just received from Fisher. I've been going back and forth with Fisher for a few weeks now and can't get a straight answer. Maybe someone here can answer my questions.

A man at Fisher called me a few weeks back and told me that there was no charge to me and that I had a lifetime warranty on my unit (CZ-20). He said I will maintain my lifetime warranty on the new CZ-21 since I had a lifetime warranty on my CZ-20. He said anyone that had the lifetime warranties on there units were not going to loose them on upgrading to a new unit. He said the only thing I would be charged for is if I wanted to upgrade my coil on my unit. I would like like to upgrade to a 10.5 in coil but not if I have to spend $300 dollars on upgrading to a CZ-21.

I keep getting mixed answers on my questions from Fisher. If I have to pay to get my unit upgraded I will wait until it fails or gets soaked before I send it in for repair. I guess I'll have to post on the forums and see what people have to say. I was told by a technician there that there was no physical improvement on the unit other than the pin pointer which I don't have to hold down any more. For $300+ dollars I will use my hand held pin pointer.

I'm getting more frustrated by the day with mixed answers on my questions. Maybe someone on the forums can answer my questions because I can't get a straight answer from the guys at fisher.

Hello Michael,

First let me apologize for getting back to you so late.

For your CZ-20 you may use "return number" XXXXX place the number on the
outside of the box with a note inside with your name, address and the
problem with the unit.

Ship to:

Fisher Labs
Attn: Repairs
Reference: XXXXX
1465 H - Henry Brennan Dr.
El Paso, TX 79936

Also we no longer can repair the CZ-20's since those parts are no
obsolete therefore regardless if under warranty we must upgrade them to
a CZ-21, the upgrade consists of replacing the housing, panel, gaskets,
will have a new unit serial number for an upgrade total of $298.00 plus
freight charges. If we have to replace the coil or headphones that would
be an extra charge.

Once the unit arrives a technician will evaluate the unit and give me
the charges in which I will contact you with no repairs until you
approve on a credit card, check or money order. As soon as we receive
payment and from that point the repairs should take 5-7 business days.

The RA number XXXX is good for two weeks so please send it right away.

Thank you for being patient.
