Purchased a used CZ-20! Is there any maintence that needs to be done to this machine (ie: O ring lube for battey compartment)!?
Thanks for your help!
Regards
John

whenever I open the battery compartment. I also have a couple spare O-rings, just in case.
If your CZ-20 has a coil cover, you might want to remove it once a year and wash out the gunk under the coil cover. If there is any magnetic black sand in there, it will cause the unit to false.

I believe Fisher has a special lubricant for same and the lubricant used for vehicles which have the roof skylight does the job also. I understand Vaseline is not recommended as it tends to break down the rubber in the 0 ring..

Hey Stepalone, You want to get White Silicone Waterproof Grease, and put that on the O-ring. You can buy a small container at any scuba diving shop.
I have mine from my old scuba diving days, and you only need to coat the O-ring lightly. You may be able to find it in Lowe's HomeBuilding Center of Home Depot.
VERY IMPORTANT: THOROUGHLY WASH OFF THE ENTIRE DETECTOR AFTER EACH OUTTING with FRESHWATER! If you use a coil cover, I would remove it after each outting, and thoroughly rinse it out, and the bottom of the coil also! ALSO VERY IMPORTANT, remember to disconnect the lower stem rod from the handle straight shaft, before you thoroughly rinse off the detector. Then, let it thoroughly DRY BEFORE YOU REASSEMBLE.
If the lower stem rod starts to stick inside the handle straight shaft over time. Try using some surfboard wax (you can purchase a brick of it for approx. $1.50 a brick at any surf shop or boogie board store), RUB THE BRICK AGAINST THE LOWER STEM ROD, then take a PIECE OF NEWSPAPER, RUB DOWN THE LOWER STEM ROD WITH THE NEWSPAPER, this will help to evenly distribute the surfboard wax on the lower stem rod.
Hope this helps, hh, NamVetLesTreasureSeeker
