Hi all, North Queensland is being hit by the biggest cyclone in living memory with a total width of 1000 KLM. Winds up to 290kph at center ,very near Cairns at Innsfail wich was wiped out only four years ago by cyclone Larry. We are in Townsville 250klm south and look like getting winds to 130kph , at the moment it is gusting to 70kph and the rain is getting heavy. This is the second cyclone in 10 days. At least the ground will be soft to dig , if i still have a M D or a house, Gotta go things are starting to breake.

I just made a prayer for your situation there, may God be with you all there.

Thoughts and prayers with ya buddy, hang in there!!!

A prayer for all you folks. If it's safe...How about some pictures.

Hi, to you all there over the ditch. My wife and i were over there to help with the clean up after cyclone larry,we saw first hand the extent of the damage that was done.and wish you all the very best, and a speedy return to normal life......jim

Been watching what happening up your way. It looks like you guys dodged a major bullet there. Hopefully your house is undamaged. it seems that Townsville escaped the worst of it. I don't envy the folks to the south of you. It looks like Yasi tracked along exactly the same path as Larry.:stretcher:
Hopefully you'll be out detecting real soon.
Mick Evans.

Thanks for all your good will and kind thoughts , power was restored to our street to-day but some may not get it back for a week or so.Water is back on now to.
Most of the damage was north of Townsville with the worst winds and rain.
How did you go snoopy ?, i have helped with the clean up and your school dig is without a lot of trees now so i think we wont have to dig to much.
My photos are coming as soon as i work it out , but if you care to look yassi up you will find much better than i captured on the net.
Thanks to all , mark

Hi all

Yes we did dodge a bullet. Although we escaped the Category 5 level cyclone (5 is the highest category), we still got the equivalent of a Category 3 which I admit was pretty bloody scary! The trees were bending, branches snapping, and the house was just vibrating with each gust of wind. No major damage for us though - just a lot of fallen trees and a few powerlines. We got power restored within 36 hours but unfortunately some suburbs are still without power 5 days after the cyclone. No internet connection at home so doing this at work (ssshhhh don't tell the boss)

Our beaches have had loads and loads of sand swept away so I tried detecting over the weekend and came home with a couple of rings (junk and silver) plus a few bucks. There's more there I am sure. Photos later and hopefully some videos....

Cheers
Snoopy
PS doctor11 - lemme know if you're going out for a swing over the weekend...
