As of today, I have found94,726 coins, which means that I have 5,274 coins to go before I break the 100,000 coin mark. I will be doing a lot of penny popping this year.

My total silver count is 1,287 coins.

that is awesome, any idea what the $ amount adds up to? great job, Mike

That beats the heck out of my 12,385 for $860.07.
that is awesome, any idea what the $ amount adds up to? great job, Mike
Probably a lot of free gold coins and metal detectors.............

Very nice. The only thing I like more than detecting, and reading about detecting, is metal detecting statistics and reading about metal detecting statistics. Lots and lots of numbers. I am, frankly, surprised that you did not have the numbers immediately available. I am most impressed by that silver to clad ratio. It is 5 or 6 times mine.

My totals, if interested (I only started recording when I got my Ace 250 last June):

Total coins 7654 for $840.46
Silver coins: 20
Coins from 100,000: 92,346 (I suppose I'll worry about 10,000 first.)

I skip a lot of one cent coins at the end of most hunts. I am thinking about using my pennies to buy silver coins and maybe that will motivate me to dig them all. Lifetime one cent coins: 2121. A lot of digging for 20 bucks. Do you use buck as slang for a Canadian dollar?

Chris

Man, I remember you writing about getting close to 10,000. Where was the big party I was expecting? Where was the fanfare?

I suppose the next logical stop is 25,000?

Chris

If you MD old houses you not get that kind of totals. Go do the parks and your totals will be higher. I'm not a park guy, unless it's an old park.

You are correct John. Lots of times I go hunting for quantity, which takes me to parks and schools. I just use a screwdriver and pop out those coins as quick as I can. I buy a gold coin each year with those pennies. When I get burned out from digging lots of coins, I like to detect old houses, creeks etc. where the pace is a lot slower or water hunts. The variety of hunts keeps the fires burning in this hobby for me. :) And garrett makes the finest coin hunters IMHO :)

I sometimes get discouraged when I read posts on the Beach and Water forum and see guys pulling in 3 or 4 or 5 or more pieces of gold jewelry in a weekend. I guess once you reach a certain skill level it's all where you hunt. When you went to Florida back when your Grandbaby was born your totals looked a lot different than your West Va totals. Probably because you didn't know where the new interstate was going down there!

Chris

A while back you wrote me a great PM about beach hunting. I just got the new Garrett mini book and it had almost all of your tips.

I will post my version of that chart in 9 years. Great stuff. What surprises me is your lowish quarter and dime totals and of course that amazing penny total. I generally like to average .10 per coin. I can manipulate this number by either ignoring zinc cent signals or digging them all. I generally dig them all for an hour or so and then ignore them.

Chris

I still can't believe those penny numbers. If you assume average mass of 2.5g (it's probably higher) you have dug 185,330grams, or 185.33 kilos, or about 408 pounds of just pennys!

I know Fl. better than I know WV. when it came to MD'ing. I had a hard time when I came to WV. It was a different style of detecting. In Fl. people left me alone if I wasn't on there property. They don't want to get involved and mind your own business type attitude. If you start detecting near some ones property in WV, you better be ready to answer a lot of questions. Probably why the crime rate is so low here. When I was in Fl. this year I mainly hit the parks due to convenience. Coin and jewelry count was up. I went to one old site and coins were older and fewer. What-is-it's went way up. The summer beach coin and jewelry count is very high at 4:00 PM when everyone is leaving. I mean it is good, easy and fast digging. I found a lot more rings in Fl. More people wear gold in Fl. and there are more places to lose it. There is a different culture in Fl. Even the kids wear gold chains around their necks. You don't see that in WV. It seems that minorities wear more gold and WV. is 96% white.

Our dimes and quarters are made of nickel or nickel plated steel. Garrett detectors are one of the few machines that will pick up Canadian clad, as they are all designed to hit hard on US coins.

I'm like more like :canadaflag:John. I like to mix it up. Some days parks and big numbers, some days old places and low numbers but a chance for silver and relics.

Here are my stats since I started. I would have to go through my spreadsheet and hand count the silver. I only do coin count and total $$.

I have found exactly one Canadian quarter (now in my brag book,) zero Canadian dimes, quite a few Canadian nickels, and way over 100 Canadian pennies. Now I am even more in awe of your totals.

Chris

Hey John in Edmonton,
You should have turned the second pic 90 degreeto the left and claimed a money tree.
Joking apart, your overall totals and your collection of Garretts are awesome.
I doff my hat to thee.
