Can anyone offer any experience and suggestions with settings for hunting Civil War campsites in regard to the Explorer XS? What signals should I focus on while searching this type of area? Lots of iron? Please help if you have any suggestions. Thanks...
 
Hey Joe,
I hunt for CW relics here in Va and I have been trying different things to pick out the good stuff from the trash. I have found that if you lower Iron mask to -15 or -16 you can hear a small difference in tones if the good target is very close to trash. It is a subtle difference, but it is there. It can be a little noisy, but it does produce better. I also run ferrus tones with audio1 selected. Audio1 seems to help you hear the changes in tone better. I also run fast recovery. Also lower sens to 20-24 and go very slow. I am no professional yet..; ) but I hope this helps you.

I'll try these settings and see what happens. This is the first opportunity I've had to hunt CW relics and I don't want to blow it. Thanks again...
 
it will always depend where you are hunting woods,
fields,trashsites. when i hunt the woods of va. you would figure there wouldnt be much trash so i hunt in iron mask and dig everything i set it to manual setting as high as possilble and turn the gain to maxium so i can here the deep targets no problem im not worried about the distinction in depth dig everything. if the place is real trashy before i lave the house i program the xs with a minnieball a button alargecent abuckle all thoise things are closeley related on the xss screen and still hunt with gain at max man sens and deep recov. put it to you this way i have found more cs than us stuff right place right time or luck who knows. bassically hunt in manual at the highest possible setting gain to max and dig dig dig its there youll see
