CW discharge papers...?

A friend found a CW soldier's discharge papers & would like to know if they have any monetary value. I haven't seen them yet, but I will. Not sure if they are original yet, or if there is any way to tell.
Also, they would like to know of a good site to research old post cards. I'll be getting back to them later this evening. I'm guessing they were doing some house cleaning & found the discharge papers along with the old post cards.
Any help you good people could send my way would be much appreciated.
Thanks all & HH
Mike

Definitely collectable, but value depends on many factors: unit, rank, service record, condition of document, etc. Your best bet would be to get in touch with these folks:

On the postcards, try the following:
Deltiologists of America
P.O. Box 8
Norwood, PA 19074
Postcard History Society
P.O. Box 1765
Manassas, VA 20108-1765

Best of luck,

About all CW paper is collectable. Value is just as Buckram mentions, and condition is very important: the better the condition, the higher the value. However, who the Soldier was determines a lot of value, and Confederate paper is usually a premium. Note all "paper" is of high value, but it all has some form of value. Be sure to watch Ebay. It's a good source of research. Good hunting, David @ Dixie

for the follow ups.
Buckram: Those are some good sites that you put me onto...Thanks
This lady friend has a huge collection of old family post cards dating back to the mid 1850s. All in very good condition. I spent at least an hour looking through them...impressive. I don't know much about old post cards, but I would venture to guess that there may be some real value there.
The CW discharge paper is also in very good condition & looks to be in the original ink.
It may be a family relative...I dunno, but if it is, I hope the family takes the time to look up his regimental history & at least records it for their family history. Just seems to be the right thing to do before they sell it.
I think I can make out the the name William F. Green, Private, 16th Maine regiment.
Enlisted: July 24, 1862
Discharged: June 8, 1865
Thanks again
Mike
