Cutting back on emi

Me and a friend found a park next to the railroad tracks. We were finding coins but the emi was making me lose alot of signals i could of gotten coins from. How do i handle this?

You might also try different times of the day. Sometimes EMI changes throughout the day. I had a site that only had EMI at night. Early morning I had no problems. Not sure what was going on. I could see the railroad being a source of EMI though. Let us know how you handle it and show us the goodies.

Just something about railroad tracks and EMI whether its electrical currents, iron debris from the trains or whatever...I am with flinstone as a small coil and low sensitivity may help. Seems like these parks were created by the railroad companies and packed them in in the late 1800's, we had one in our area but was destroyed by the coal barons mining for coal...Another thought is a unit where you can change freq's as the 5-15 of a CZ although a minor EMI unit can sure be a problem in this enviroment...

The emi would disapear at 100 yards away from it or halfway through the park. The park was built in 1914 and has a railroad station next to it. If i can get my hands on a 5 inch coil cheap i'll buy it and go along as you say turning down my sensitivity. When i hunt any where my sens. is set at 4 no higher.

Not having any idea how railroads works seems like the tracks are the culprit and speaking from experience tried to hunt along railroad tracks several times over the years and had to move away from interference. Good luck in your venture and can understand your concerns as imagine you are missing a lot of good area in your situation...

I'm only guessing... but aren't electrical signals sent through the rails to control signals and switches?

If so wouldn't this cause EMI?

Hi Dirt, Get a small DD coil, and turn down your gain a little. Good luck Flintstone

Flintstone that would probably help but they don't make a dd coil for a CZ. But turning down your sensitivity may help Dirt Lizard like Flintstone said. I hunted near train tracks yesterday with a AT-Pro with the stock dd and had no emi trouble that I could tell.

I had my sensetivity set on 4 thats where i always keep it. I think it might have been a case where it was just being too close.
