Cutlass II uMax question

 Hey everybody,...got a question. The Cutlass II uMax has 2 modes,...motion disc and motion all metal. What is the practical purpose for the all metal mode? Most detectors have a No -Motion all metal pinpointing mode. So why did they make it this way? Anyone know?

I think you'll find the all metal mode to require such little motion that it will serve quite well for pinpointing or for sizing a target. Also, many or most of the umax series from that era came with a bit of disc for small iron built in and the all metal negates that. My Silver Sabre umax wouldn't pickup the nails in my floor, while the Compadre would so I called Tesoro and learned the Compadre is in all metal when just turned on whereas the SSumax has a bit of what you might call automatic discrimination. The Cutlass II and the SSumax are very closely related so I'm thinking that's it.

 I think you are right BB, ....I have noticed the same thing with my Compadre and my Silver Sabre. I have an opportunity to trade my Compadre for a Cutlass II so I am trying to make a decision here. Thanks for your reply, HH :detecting:

Last weekend I noticed on my way to a favorite hunting spot that the newer park in town had a lot of people on the soccer field and the volley ball court right behind it. Next day me and my Cutlass uMax hit it. Disc set at 2 and Sens set in the red ( running as hot as she will go) got a signal that was breaking a little but not discriminating out really. Went all metal and 20 seconds later 2 grams of 14k " my first communion" cross pendant was in hand.

I don't hunt the all metal often but I will use it to check or clear up a deep fringe target.

And I guess it could be used to pin point but I would know , my T machines pin point like lasers ;)

I have thought about letting mine go once or twice , sure glad I didn't .

Cutlass II umax is still a good machine, forerunner of the Silver umax. I've pulled 5 or 6 pleasant surprises out from signals just like you describe with my Tesoros. Any time you get an audible that just doesn't fit - not for sure trash, nor for sure goodie it always pays to dig. 20 to 25% of the time you'll be glad you did.
