Cutlass II Straight Shaft

Sven

Well-known member
You guys probably saw the straight shaft I made for my Cutlass awhile back.
Worked pretty well overall. Did end up using that straight shaft for another detector.

Had a great idea the other day, in my parts box was a straight shaft set-up from a Fisher 1280x.
Put it all together adjusted everything.......balances just perfect, feels like a feather. Hand grip is superb and very comfortable.
Swings easy, can hunt all day. I like it. Might spray paint the shaft another color or just clean it up.

Good job Sven, I never swung a detector with a straight shaft but imagine it makes a big difference.

Depends upon the detector.
One thing I noticed is that with a straight shaft and a round handle, when you swing back and forth, the pendulum effect of some search coils makes it feel like the round handle wants to rotate in your hand.
The Fisher handle is has flattened sides like a pistol grip, gives a more steady solid feel. Much nicer.

Sven,a very nice shaft setup especially the new grip that you have used, will take a look at using one of those,i use the same type of straight shafts on 2 of my Tesoro machines

On 4 of my detectors i use a 36'' length of carbon fibre tube from Ebay which is exactly the same size as the original aluminium tubing,Whites arm cup,Minelab Sovereign straight shaft nylon handle, normal camlock and of course the original bottom shaft.

As you have mentioned makes them as light as a feather, especially my Deus setup, the whole original idea of making such a sytaihjy shaft cam about from my Crossbow Pulse as that machine with a big coil could pick up the shaft sometimes as well.

Nice mode

Sven you always do some really great mods.
