cutlass II problems.... need opinions please

I have a cutlass detector that I purchased used a couple of months ago. It came with the stock coil and the 7" widescan also.
I noticed that when I hunted with the stock coil, the detector worked fine, but when I used the widescan coil, for some reason,it would start beeping. I tried adjusting the controls which did no good and the only way to make it stop was to turn the unit off and then on again. This would happen at every site I hunted with it and sometimes it would start right off the bat and other times it would be normal for an hour or so.
I figured it to be the coil and sent everything(Detector and both coils) the factory. It was checked and both coils were retuned/recalibrated and everything checked out ok.
I got it back a couple of days ago and tried it out today.
What I now notice is that if I turn the disc. knob to around 6, it will start the beeping and if I turn the knob a fraction either way, the erratic beeping stops and the detector works fine.
Has anyone ever experienced this problem before?
Now I think there may something going on with the disc. control, but I don't know.
I am going to call Tesoro next week and talk to a tech. to help solve this problem, but just thought I'd ask about this on the forum in the meantime.
Any opinions are greatly appreciated!!
Thanks,
Felix
