Cut River

Mary and I took a 4 hour kayak trip down the Cut river which connects Higgins Lake to Houghton Lake Michigan. The full run takes 6-8 hours but we normally only paddle half of it at a time. As it was, I forgot my hat and burned the heck out of my head. There is no cover in this stretch and it was a hot, sunny day.

i enjoyed the trip! You may need to take an axe along sometime so Mary can cut up those snags.

Do you ever see any bears when you are going down some of those rivers and creeks? Thanks for sharing this video with the Forum, very enjoyable watching it. Kelley (Texas) :)

I like it when you have it all to yourself and just the quiet of the woods.... Water sure is clear..... With all the water, do you ever seen any moose along there? Seems like every time I've seen on its been near water...... Are you using your helmet cam there or your new one you got for your trip? Stays nice and steady and really does a nice job..... Your becoming the Spielberg of Michigan with these films...

with all the rain a lot of tannin has been washed into the water from the cedars. It will get clear. I would say that over 70% of the bends are over my head and on a normal trip you can see to the bottom and they look to be a couple feet deep. Lots of smallmouth bass in there. It is not floated much. We are going to the South Branch again tomorrow but to an area we only do once a year. It will be a fun time for sure.

I was using my sony HD camera this time. It is hard to get good shots when in a kayak. Two hands are pretty much needed but I did what I could :D I should have had the Helmet cam running too and I could have gotten some good shots of the bends and snags. When I get to them the camera takes back seat :D

There are no Moose down here but a few in the upper

except occasionally while in the truck, maybe three times in my life. I never have seen one while kayaking. It is very peaceful
