Customer service for Fisher, I heard they are horrible??

Hi everyone I am looking into getting a Fisher CZ-21 but been reading on the other forums that their customer service was bad!! Has anyone had any bad service from them?? Just curious because on Treasure Net lots of those guys are saying that the new take over of the company has hurt their customer service!! I would really like to know if you guys been having a bad time with them for service which I feel is very important when it comes to making a sale with me!! Also how have you guys been liking the new CZ-21? Hope to get some feedback!! Aloha

Some of their represenatives are more knowlegable than others so have heard input either way..In any case it appears repair costs
have skyrocketted since the takeover...so buy new with a warranty as repairing a used one can be costly...

Hey Makahaman, A friend of mine in one of my local clubs got a brand new CZ-21 from First Texas, as they could not repair his CZ-20, that he had sent in for repair. He used it a couple of times, and has since sent it back in for repair, as he told me a week ago, that it had a BAD CABLE PROBLEM!! Personally, I would wait at least (6) months before I bought a New CZ-21, that will give them MORE TIME to GET THE KINKS OUT OF THE CZ-21!! Maybe, you can find a GOOD USED CZ-20 for around $500, or explore other options!! Just my Personal OPINION!! Best of luck,hh,Les Robinson

There service is great I sent my CZ70 in for service lifetime warranty no prolems.
I had also puchaced a 10.5 inch coil that was defective from a dealer that would not give me the time of day
they replaced that for free also GREAT SERVICE

I have two CZ20s and both have been repaired in the last few months. One is nine years old and needed a new cable (it's first repair), when it came back they had upgraded it with the new CZ21 front plate and pin point button, a real surprise. I bought the second one when I heard that they were going to stop making the 20s and within a few months the cable went bad. When I sent it in, it came back with the same upgrades. I always ask for a person named Felix in the Fisher section, he always takes care of me. It takes about three weeks to have a detector repaired. I hip mount my detectors and use the 8" coil. I tried the 10" and the extra weight was to much for my elbow and shoulder. I think it was trying to stop the momentum of the swing that caused the problem.

I sent my check in several weeks ago, and my CZ-20, with the new CZ-21 housing is still whereabouts unknown to me. The only time I got any response from FRL was a few weeks back when I started ranting online about a total lack of info on the status of my unit. It took several phone calls before I got a call back from a tech there explaining the issue and why the repair work was so expensive. No, Felix was not very helpful to me. I inferrred an almost deliberate ignorance of my unit's "problems" from his response. Just sent a e-mail to them asking for an update. I have never got a response from any e-mail I have sent to them regarding the work and I have sent several e-mails.

I would be most happy to salute Fisher if the unit somehow got here before the cold weather breaks so I can get it out and see how it works. I have been a loyal Fisher user for a long time now but am definitely not an FRL fan.

BEST OF LUCK, TIM!! I hope you get it back with NO FURTHER HEADACHES!! Just curious, what did they charge you for, and what did they DIAGNOSE as the PROBLEM!! If you don't want to say, I will understand, and NOT BE AFFENDED!! HH, Les Robinson

I originally asked for simple maintenance, seals and front panel buttons. That's a $66 charge. I called a week after sending it next day USPS, was told only that the repairs would cost $535 by Felix and he did not have any details except that it needed a new circuit board. I told him it was working fine when sent in and asked for details. He said he'd call back next day and fill me in. After a couple days I called, and he informed me it had a broken front panel and bad pot.

So I asked for specifics and he had none. Sounded like a different story to me than he said originally and I wanted specific answers after several more days and talking to other Fisher/FT folk, I got a call from Dan, one of the techs there. He took the time to explain that repairing the unit in the original housing would leave cracks in the front panel voiding any notion of submersibility. Because of this it would need a new housing, the only housing/front panel now available is the CZ-21 and as both the CZ-20 and CZ-21 have an interface board (the aforementioned circuit board) and this was the reason for the cost.

I'm waiting for it to be delivered now, got an e-mail from Felix stating it should ship out Tuesday afternoon. Did not get any follow up or tracking number info so I'm wondering if, as with my earlier exchanges with him, "shipping out" means something else. BTW, I would never use UPS by choice. I hope FT doesn't.

This doesn't sound good.

$66 to $535?

Really?

Inquiring minds want to know!

Please.

Yep, jump in price was attributed to front panel crack. The unit is 12 years old and I bought it about 8 years ago, so I suppose it was not warranty work, I can buy that. But the good news is, just got the letter detailing the work yesterday afternoon, and the FedEx tracking number, and she's on the truck up here in my neck of the woods now and this saga is about to come to a close!

They treated me great so far, called them to see if they could trac down my machine because when I ordered it I had to juggle vacation time from work to take a small road trip with a hunting buddy of mine, when it was tracked it had a weeks difference in the delivery date. I guess they re-routed it durring transit to get it on a next day air someplace so I would have it in time, taking 3-4 days off the wait. This kinda stunned me, wasnt expecting them to do that. I didnt get it yet, but they called to let me know id have it in a day or two. My distributor originaly said with the drop ship id have it in 7-8 days from order. the tracking number said 2 weeks. hey as long as it comes in perfect working order and new in the box ill be happy. They actually went out of thier way for me when i showed some concern. So they eased my worry wondering where it was, Its not all the time I can scrape and save an extra $750 for machine, not with this econamy anyway.Ill admit, your mind kinda wonders when you hear about delays. But ...they took care of it, and fast too. The guy John kept me right on the phone when he looked up my order on the computer, he was a big help. And of course when we order a new machine we want nothing less then to have it shipped under armed security guards strapped to an ambulance stretcher on big fluffy pillows.
I didnt deal with the repair dept, and really cant speak on that area....and hope i dont have to for a long long time, but the people who handled my situation did an excellent job.
thanks Fisher

I was quite upset by the service and vague info I got from Felix as well. Since getting my CZ-20 back though it works really fine. One problem though, the GB knob is froze at just below the factory preset of 5. That also happens to be a great setting for the wooded areas around here but I'd sure appreciate being able to adjust it elsewhere.

And NO, I will absolutely NOT send it back to get that checked. I'm done rolling the dice with First Texas' service department, but look forward to trying some of the new Fisher machines when I get a little more loot dug up.

did i understand right that he said they were sending you a machine that isn't yours and it doesn't work. what explanation did he give when you asked him why they were sending it to you.

I think you will find the the GB control is just stuck because of a real tight fit of the water seal on the control shaft. Grab the knob firmly, and try to turn it, hard. Once it moves, it will move freely.

I have noticed this problem on the new units coming through.

I AGREE WITH YOU 100%.I HAVE BEEN A FISHER CUSTOMER FOR 20YEARS,BUT AM NOW AFRAID TO BUY THEIR PRODUCTS.I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF ANY COMPLAINTS WITH WHITES OR TESOROS SERVICE DEPT. MY NEXT DETECTOR WILL BE ONE OF THOSE.

I've got a CZ-20 I bought off a guy, so needless to say the warranty probably isn't good now. I had it for almost 7 months and the Pinpoint Problem happened, at least so I understand from other's accounts of the problem. Sounds like all of my discrimination shifted to the right, so now trash sounds like high coins, etc. I bought an Excal, and have been using it happily since, but would like to get my 20 fixed to either sell it or go back to using it part time. Has anyone that had this problem got it fixed, and can give me a price estimate? I paid $550 for it to begin with, I don't feel like paying another $500 to get it running and have a $1k detector that I can't sell for that price if I'd like to. Any response on this would be much appreciated!

Gave the GB knob a hard twist and it did open up. Took it out Friday with the CZ-7 and hit the park, got a trashy under-hunted area in my local park. Had the 10.5 on the CZ-7 and turned it on, as I set it to the ground to setup, it gave a distinct beep and I swung it back and forth, got a high coin reading at 8", so I turned on the CZ-20 and set it up, swung it over and got a fainter beep but clearly repeatable.

Dug the hole and got a '24 wheatie at just about 8". Next coin out of the ground was an undated buff at 8" also reapeatable but only the CZ-20 gave me a consistent nickel read, the CZ-7 bounced from foil to nickel and back. Usually buffs read foil on the CZ-7 for me. So it looks like 20 is still good to go. Just got back from putting it through some sidewalk demo, schoolyard playground and an old homesite that has a city playground being built on it.

Got another buff, half a dozen wheaties and gads of clad. No gold or silver but it's doing it's job right so I'm happy.
