Custom treasure pouches

Hey, folks...
Anyone ever make a custom treasure/trash pouch? I've used a few of the commercial ones over the years, but have never quite been satisfied with what I've had. Part of my problem is that I've got so much stuff hanging off of my belt (pouch, tool holders, now Periscope) that things become quite cumbersome. Having the Tek hip mounted makes things worse, and I often worry about my finds spilling out of the pouch. With all of this in mind, I'm working on a custom pouch for myself. Will post photos if anyone would like to take a look.

I started with a carrying pouch for a Minelab F1A4 that I had to hand( I liked the seal and the front to back depth of the pouch). Made the coin slide from some scrap leather, gooped it into a slit on the hinge side of the top of the pouch. (Coin slide is not my idea: saw one on some pouches quite a few years back, liked it so I copied it).

The next step will be to secure a heavy leather back to the other side of the pouch.

Hi:Reminds me of "The Twice Found Key"..I worked a small Beach once,Found amongst other things was a Brass House Key that had been bent in order to make a Wall mounted Coat hook(the small hole in the head used for the mounting Screw. The Tide came in,so I left for another Beach about 7 Miles away,Tuned up, and after a few Targets I got a Nice clear Hit,BAM another Brass Key Bent in the shape of a Coat Hook!!! Yeah!! It had been Lost Twice!!! Ken

I hear you... think there's been a few times when I've found the same penny more than once... %-) Even more fun is having your pouch tip over when you take your belt off, spilling your finds across the parking lot! But no more. Work on the prototype pouch continues.

In the top photo that I posted, you can see that the pouch has a nylon strap sewn across the front. I'm not sure what it's original purpose was, but it serves perfectly for holding two screwdrivers and a Japanese gardening trowel. I've glued a large piece of thick leather to that side (gluing along the strap, and vertically along the edges). A lighter weight leather loop at the top serves to hold the unit to my utility belt. I cut the long nylon strap so that it would just run across the other side of the pouch, and use it to hold a Minelab trash pouch. Have been out once with the rig... seems very stable, not at all prone to folding like the trash pouches alone are. I really like having the tools, treasure, and trash pouch in the same vertical space: everything is right to hand, I don't have to twist to reach anything. Not having to worry about the good stuff getting caught in the trash when I dump it is great.

I'll post more photos as soon as I get the chance...

Nice!

Yeah I too never found a pouch that truely worked for me, so I modified an existing one. I basically took a small two-pocket military pouch (see the posted pic) , removed the two metal clasps (that were on each pocket), removed the flap on the smaller pocket, sewn some patches on the holes where the clasps used to be. Folded back the big pocket's flap behind & tacked it down with a few stitches, then took a strip of suede leather (gotten from the fabric section at walmart) & stitched it onto the rim of the big pocket (so that it would protect the fabric) , then finally ran a piece of stiff plastic coated electrical wire (used in house construction) under the leather (so that it kept the mouth of the big pocket open). Instead of using the belt loop on the back of the pouch, I took a piece of canvas strap I had laying around, attatched those thumb clips (you might find at the end of a dog's leash) on both ends of the strap & fed it through the pouch's belt loop. Now I can simply clip the the pouch onto the beltloops on my jeans (havnt broken a belt-loop yet!)

I wil;l take a pic of it soon & post it.

I really dont like leather as a metal detecting pouch, its hard to clean & I'd be afraid to toss it in the washer like I do my canvas pouch. I think heavy, tight-knitted thick canvas (cotton duck I think they call it) would make perfect material for a pouch. Its durable, & can be washed via a washing machine. I have washed my pouch in the washing machine more times than I can count & it is still holding up fine.

Note: the pouch is quite smaller than a regular leather pouch, but I like to travel light.... and if one had to.... they could make another pouch to add next to it.

I don't know if I would call these custom, but they have 2 heavy PVC tubes to carry a probe, or pinpointer, or what whatever, then a spot perfect for the Lesche trowel, and 2 outer pockets with Velcro top flaps to secure the goods. On relic hunts, I'll use two of these pouches on one heavy belt. If I have allot of other small gear, I wear a fishing vest which has several pockets, D-Rings and a built-in back pouch to carry things like a thermos, drinks, snacks, and other chow good. Sometimes I get loaded depending on the hunt and weather. Might be carrying cell, lightning detector, GPS, first aid kit, snake bite kit, ropes, rain gear and other clothing, radio to listen to when lunch is in progress, bug spray, additional digging and misc tools, shovels, spare battery pack, coils, extra pinpointer, and have a way to strap an extra detector on the back of the vest. I don't want to pull a red wagon and get a flat :surprised:
Anyway, the pouch(s) I mostly use are heavy leather and should last:
Here is the pouch showing the 2 tubes and 2 outer pouches -

Here a Lesche digger fits perfect - oops, left some trash in the main pouch

Here you see one probe in the smaller tube and the Lesche in place, and where the belt slips in -

That's a predator tool's lesche digger in the pouch.

And yeah, the pouch is a bit on the small side, but I prefer to travel light for the most part. I have been toying with the idea of making another pouch to put alongside it..... mainly to carry big pieces of trash.

And like I said before... i have yet to break a beltloop using this particular pouch-hanging configuration.
