Today was fantastic weather. Visited a friends place (1850's). It is so close to the creek you could scoop water out the kitchen window! He is a silversmith really into anachrnism and styles his pieces in celtic and ancient forms. Any way I was hoping for some old coins. After about 20 mins with the LTD I got the tiara about 4 inches deep- he yells from his studio window, hey I made that for my daughters Barbie Doll, "Princess Coming Out" Party (Debutante party for a Barbie Doll, I guess), she lost it almost 10 years ago. About 10 mins later I find that handmade silver ring about 3 inches deep, he made for someone else who lost it years ago also. Than about 20 mins later I find the silver "Celtic" button he made for his own vest; it actually has 4 small holes for sewing it on etc and is definately cool. While there was no exact lock on, there was definate almost lock ons, with the machine obviously working me into a frenzy just with the clarity of the bells and the numbers in the 80's and 90's.The disk at the right I thought man I really found something very old here, something very early. Turns out it is a lapel clip on button, he strikes a new series every year for a big party he host for knights of old with women in wench costumes, fine ale, early music and such. Oh yeah I found a bunch of clad, and newer coins. To my surprise not a single wheat back or silver coin. But still it was like my own personal treasure hunt today. His studio is kind of a two story, one room per floor, raised tower. He is like a mad alchamist working in there, with tools, metals , etc hanging every where. I think someone hundreds of years from now might have a great time hunting that site where it once stood. He throws some of his "duds" out the back door!. He is letting me keep the ring but wants the tiara and button back. The LTD did good and Im sure Im going to find some older stuff closer to the house. Thanks for lookin. CO
