Cursor Lack Of Movement

I have read plenty of posts about the cursor jumping all over the screen when running over a target, especially if iron and coin are near each other. My problem seems to be the opposite. My cursor seems to hang when I get multiple tones and occasionally jumps far right, far left. I hunt in factory mode settings and I hunt in iron-mask -16 smart mode with my Exp II. Could it be my sensitivity is set too high? Factory 8" coil is used. Do I need to raise the coil off the ground to see the last target response on the meter?

I can't wait to hear a response to this question ...... I have the same problem and have to move away from the target, stop and hear the threshold come back, then re-sweep the target .....:rage: Bryce where are you buddy.... we need some words from " The Old Guru " ......:please:

Know exactly what you are talking about. Had the same problem, cursor would not reset and seem to hang in one spot. Solution: Turn on the semi auto on your sensitivity. On the left side of the screen make sure that a small bar is flashing around the sensitivity number. Its like a ground balance. without the semi auto it will stay at the setting you put it and unless you frequently change it a high setting will cause you to go unstable. I like a high setting also but without the semi auto it will "overload" Try it and let me know. Makes a world of difference.

Bill...I know you were trying some different settings.

What are the exact settings you have programmed in now on your XS? I have the EX2 and the SE...so am not familiar with the XS.

I know with the settngs I use...I isolate what seems to be the center of the sound...then wiggle the coil until I find the sweet spot.

Most of the time the cursor will follow the sound. In a jumbled up mess though....the cursor will sometimes not help.

I hunt 100% by sound...and only use the cursor as an aid.

On deep iffy coin hits...it is not reliable anyway...other than the "flutter" along the top to top right.

All the cursor movement...or digital numbers if the case may be....is just a bonus aid to help ID.

The vast majority of the time if the coin is on edge....deep...in iron...next to iron....in trash.. deep AND in iron or trash..etc...the visual ID is pretty much unreliable.

The key to any type of success with the explorers is the sound...and the sound only.

Try running your iron mask at -6...which is the same as the factory setting of -22 on the SE.

Also set your sensitivity to semi auto 26.....and slow down to a snail's crawl when you encounter what you are speaking of.

Do little tiny 2" to 3" wiggles over the target so as to isolate the sound...then pause the coil a few inches away on either side after a few wiggles.

Your cursor should then follow the sound.

XS works the same as other Explorers.
Bill67, HP .
Next time throw a coin on top of the ground where
this is happening and see if your screen changes.
I personally don't worry about whether the cursor is
stuck or not, I wait till I hear a signal I want to dig
then I may look down and see where the cursor is.
As Bryce mentioned the Explorers are mainly audio
based detectors.

I agree with everyone that mentioned they go by sound first when choosing to dig a target. I guess that's why I have never really worried about the cursor never moving much when over a target in trashy areas. The only time I really look at the cursor, is when I think I got silver under the coil, and at that point, the cursor half gone on the top of the screen, is simply "ice cream on the pie" Thanks everyone for your input

I really believe I have been running my sensitivity too hot ...and getting the " bright headlights in the fog " effect with my machine ...... There is a WHOLE LOT of iron in the ground in my area.... Thanks for all the input guys .....:please:

Just open up your IM to say 26 and keep your sensitivity around 24 in manual. If you are in that kind of IRON which causes the null you can also swithch to Ferr tones and AM... youd be surprised what you hear and dont get those hang on tones. You can also slow down your coil swing to a craw and reduce your sensitity until you notice your smartscreen moving. You are looseing any depth by doing that because the iron nulling is reducing coil sensitivty anyway. If you have it up too high its hitting deep iron and you are missing those mid depth coins.

Thanks guys.:please:.... trying to figure it out without a tutor is a bear ....... I couldn't tell a good warble from a bad warble if you stuck a gun in my back ......
not to mention chirps, peeps, and beeps......:stars:
