curious

DD's have better separation no matter what the soil type. See this very nice illustration from the FAQ by Nero.

Concentrics

Pros

1. More sensitive.
2. Better discrimination especially against bottle caps(steel)

Cons

1. Swings must be overlapped.
2. Less separation vs DD.
3. Cannot be run as hot in mineralized soil therefore depth begins to suffer.

DD

Pros

1. Better separation than concentrics.
2. No need to overlap swing therefore more territory can be covered quickly.
3. Operate at higher sensitivity levels in mineralized soils.

Cons

1. Not as sensitive as concentrics.
2. Bottle caps(steel) can be a challenge.
3. Some find pinpointing a challenge after having used concentrics for a long time.
