Curious Beach Hunt

Mat in MA

Member
[size=medium]My wife and I took a few days and headed to the beach. We figured now was a good time as the beaches would be pretty empty, and we were right. Everyone has gone back to work and school making detecting easier.

She hit the dry sand and I hit the wet sand and surf. I'm really surprised at how little there is out there this year. Even some of the regulars on the forums aren't showing or even telling much about this years hunts.

Most of the finds were the usual junk of pull tabs, bottle caps, bobbie pins, batteries, rusty nails, nuts and bolts, sparkler wires and assorted trash. We did get a couple of dollars in change. I had a solid hit in the wet sand and had to dig down about 10" to pull out this ear ring. When I saw it in the scoop I thought it was a bracelet until I rinsed more of the mud off of it and saw the open end. There are no markings on it and it weighs in at 10 gr. I wish it was gold, but I don't think so even though the color is quite close

These next items are strange and we need help identifying what they are. What makes them strange is that I found two and my wife found one, all on different areas of the beach. She found hers up in the dry sand, I found one in the wet sand a couple of hundred yards away from her. I then found another a couple of hundred yards away from that, again in the wet sand about 6" deep.

They look like small cookie cutters. The top has a smooth edge on it. The bottom edge is plain metal but not sharp to the touch. They are all manufactured the same and painted blue. They do not fit one inside of the other making them all the same size. The ruler is so you can see the size of these things.

If anyone has any ideas as to what they are, we'd sure like to know. Thanks for your help.

I found one back in 2007 in oct. at york beach.....same color I think...heres a pic....I have no idea what they are....

Those odd metal things look like they may have been used as ferrules to keep wood from splitting. Possibly on old wooden beach chair parts (legs or arm rests and beach umbrellas were of wood too in the good old days.)?

Otherwise---no clue!!

TEST THE EARING...NEVER KNOW MAY BE GOLD?? I HOPE SO!!! YA...NO ONE FROM UP HERE POSTING......GUESS NO ONE FOUND ANY LOOT ALL SUMMER??:blink:???? :bouncy::rofl::poke:.... GOOD LUCK THIS WINTER!!

I find lots of both in our super junkie Orchard Beach. Both of them stick to magnet in my scoop so they are not gold soooryy!:rage:

I've been finding 10's of the blue things on Cape Cod, MA.....thought they may be some sort of holder/form for a rocket popsickle or the base of some sort of fireworks ....found today in a freshwater pond in Upstate, NY.....even asked my know-it-all 24 yr old daughter....she did not have a clue..what they are is driving me crazy  They're everywhere !!!!

I saw them while in the alien space craft after being abducted. They are spent fuel rod canisters. Non-radioactive so you are safe storing them. Jim

[size=medium]If they are what you say they are, then why are they all the same size, color and shape? If you check this thread they have been found from Maine to Alabama.

As far a molds for the sand, I think they are too small. If a child tried to make a mold with these they wouldn't pop out too easy, and if they pushed them out with their fingers they would either break or their fingers would go right through the center.

The problem I have with the cookie cutter theory is that why would you buy and any company manufacture only one color, one shape sand toy? It just doesn't make any sense. When you buy sand toys for the beach there are a variety of sizes and shapes of toys in a single bag. Besides, any bags of sand toys that I've ever seen have all been made out of PLASTIC. These items are metal and can be picked up with a magnet. A good guess, maybe, but I'm not convinced yet. Thanks for your input.

[size=medium]Hey Beach Hunter - Long time no hear from. Ya, things are real slow on the beach, both at the ocean and here inland in the fresh water areas. Four hours and this was the best we could do. There were tons of people on the beach this year, but they just wern't loosing anything of value. Too bad, but there is always next year.

Are you still planning a trip to Bermuda to see BDA? If so, Good Luck and I hope you find some goodies down there. :detecting:
