Curious about the Bounty Hunters........?????

Apparently BH has been around for a long time and have been the butt of alot of bad
press, probably because of their association with Radio Shack and WalMArt. I have seen BH at WalMart and Dick Sporting goods; the ones I have seen seem to be low end machines.
My question is what do BH owners find good about them. What are the good points and the bad points.

Do BH owners also own other makes and models from other manufactures?

How would you compare them.

Please note I am not trying to stirr up an MD war here so I hope we will all bve civil.:yo:

Regards
Robert R

Not all of us can afford the top end price range machines. The BH 202 seems to do everything that I need it to do. It really depends on what you are going to be using the machine for, I suppose, hobby etc.

I am sure every MD machine company makes some good decetors. I like the like weight and the reliability that I have had with mine.

I have two of them with no problems, they are affordable, and they work.

My first modern detector was a Radio Shack version of the Land Star. I liked the weight and ease of use, the inexpensive coils. It has great discrimination, about the best I've seen on any of the detectors that I have owned. I have had Tesoro, Minelab, Fisher and Whites but the best at discrimination is still the Land Star. My present main machine is a Whites M6, I also have a Fisher F4, a Surfmaster PI Pro and the Land Star. HH

Hi robert roy, I own a variety of detectors, Infinium LS, SD2100, x2 BH tracker IV's, amongst others, and owned a few others tesoro etc. Every detector has it's place in the arsenal! While my tracker IV's are relatively inexpensive I have found between $20,000 to $30,000 worth of jewelery and coins in the last 2 yrs alone with them. I use them in kids playgrounds, chip bark or sand, dry sand at the beach, and for search and recovery of lost items. With 100% sucess rate to date in a 3yr period, don't underestimate the units they rock! A moderate detector in the hands of a good operator is worth more than a top of the line one in the hands of a uneducated operator. What ever detector you own, learn it intimately and you will be sucessful! Live your dreams! HH regards Nugget.:detecting:

Good points- 1- Not Expensive
2- My SS 2 takes 2 -9 volt bat. that last along time - I use rechargeables with no problems
3- The warranty is outstanding and the people you deal with are top notch
4- lightweight
5- Turn on and go
6- Good depth in soil and sand
7- Different tones for different metals
8- Has different settings for different hunts
9- Pretty accurate in distinguishing targets
10- Easy to learn so more items can be found fast

Bad Points- 1- No Volume control - I installed my own (-love it)
2- The bottom part of the rod breaks with alot of swinging- a pvc coupling makes a great repair
3- You find so much stuff you can't put it down.......I call it my money maker...wife laughs but totally agrees she loves the jewelry I give her

Please note these are my opinions you may or may not agree.......so be it ....... HH GregM

hello everyone, greg m and nugget [and everybody else] hit the nail right on the head! the bh line just cant be beat for the money spent. i like many others pretty much avoided bh for a long time. i can verily well assure you sir that the pioneer 202/quick draw 2 that i have is no joke among detectors. i have no problems finding stuff that other high priced machines have been over, and will not hesitate to put it up against any other machine out there. i have personally smoked much more expensive machines - theyre still scratching their heads... just gimme some hot batteries...hh,

One day I decided to backtrack in the hoofprints of a woman that annoys me at the beach- she follows me wherever I go - it must be better where I am ya know ....... I try to stay away from her but when I turn around there she is like a bad rash. I am pretty sure she uses an Excal - she wraps the unit up like its a Christmas present so you cannot see what she has. I found a load of coins she missed. She always says she is not finding stuff and that the coins do not cover the cost of her gas to get to the beach. I take her pic with my camera phone to show my wife just how close she follows behind me . Keep in mind this is a LARGE beach . I don't know about you all but I like alittle space between me and the next MD'er. I believe it shows respect for the next guy. HH GregM

I think she likes ya Greg...:inlove: ... Man I know how ya feel...I hate sheep (those who follow the leader)...next time, don't let her get behind you...get behind her...Then insult her by saying...maybe it is your detector...you need to buy a Bounty Hunter...

HH,

BH-LandStar

ROBERT, i'm no expert on how long they've been around but i do know that they started on OREGON.. i had a BH RED BARON and completly wore it out, i got that one in the mid 70's,, and the LAND START i just sold,, i would put it up against any detector of any brand,, don't always think that the more $$$ they are the better they are,, i'll bet money on the old guy on the beach with a RED BARON against the yuppy that just got a TESORO,, anyday
thats my $.02

Well, with all that said and done, I may have to try one of these machines and see how they hold up.
I have an Ace and an MXT right now, and they both do a bang up job. The only thing I don't care for is the 9x12 coil on the Ace 250.
It only air tested at 2-3 inches with a dime and a quarter with sensitivity set at 4. I had to turn the sensitivity all the way up to get 7-8 inches.
All I can say is something smells rotten in Denmark. Either my coil is no good or the 9x12's in general are no good.

So which of teh BH's do you recommend?
Robert R

Sooooo how much ARE the Land Stars and the Trackers.
What are their Model numbers?
I should really try a couple of these machines and judge
for myself if they are anygood.

Robert R

Just go to eBay, search Metal Detectors, then Bounty Hunter

HUmmmmm. Well, I may have to break down and give one a try.
Now let me ask you this: how much doe the BH's cost in Australia?
The last I saw, the US dollar and the Australian dollare were close.

Robert R

Well Rob Roy, my .02 is that you'll be hard put to find a more functional
and dependable BH than the Land Star. The AM no-motion manual GB is a
big plus for any kind of hunting, especially coins. If your soil is high
minerals, you'll be able to ground balance perfectly, as opposed to
the factory set or "auto GB" of some other units which can be "chancy".
It's a real workhorse, with excellent discrimination. Just follow the manual's
instructions for great results.

With three great coils (4" 8" & 10" concentrics) to use and the excellent
notching modes in disc., the LS is very versatile. Remember that BH
has incorporated in all it's circuits the basic designs of the inimitable
electronics engineer George Payne, from his previous work for them
in the past. Payne invented most of the modern circuits now in use in
the industry (remember his Teknetics & Red Baron?) He is one of those
giants whose shoulders most current engineers have stood upon. So
it's not surprising that Bounty Hunter has done so well in the biz,
coupled with savvy marketing to the detecting public.
