Curious about coin ratios....

I've been hunting yards almost exclusively since the first of the year. Thus far, I've found 18 silver dimes (9 each of Mercs and Rosies), but only 1 silver quarter. Is that a fairly normal ratio? I'm not complaining mind you. This is the most silver I've ever gotten in this short a time period. But I am really curious what ratios others are getting.

I've also been very pleasantly surprised at how many yards I've gained permission to hunt. Of course I really seek out those yards that look unkempt, but thus far I'd guess I'm getting permission about 80-90% of the time.

I'd love to read your totals for the year thus far. I'm really curious about the dimes to quarters ratio.

Also, one quick question. I notice the stock coin program has a small triangle in the upper right corner rejected. Anybody have an idea of what types of targets would appear in that area?

Thanks for all the instruction and inspiration I've been getting from your posts. I've learned a lot!

I average about 10% silver quarters for all my silver, this year I am right on target with 22 silver total two are quaters.....and for wheats I normally am 4 wheats to every silver

What i have observed is that the Ratio of Dimes to Quarter reflect the comparison you have observed

Let's be real, Dimes are small and get lost so much easier than a Quarter and we don't even have to discuss the loss/find of Half's and Dollar's

Always a Thrill when we locate those Large Coins that someone regrets losing and we enjoy finding

Great about your finds and your percentage of permission

Congrats about your Success and looking forward to all your Finds

Nice to be saying Hello to you, Phillip.

I will leave the question of coin ratios to your fellow USA detectorists, because find rates and ratios are as much about location and its past usage / history, as well as coin sizes / handle ability.

Now to answer the part of your post regarding the 'upper right hand corner rejection' on the E-Trac.

By inspection; this area is for targets of zero ferrous contents and high conductivity.

You ask, "What are such targets?"

A simplistic answer is, "Any big lump of conductive material."

The reason for blocking in the Coin & Jewellery pattern is to alleviate

from 2011:

39 silver coins

1 half (walker)
1 war nickel
5 quarters (2 barbers, 3 washingtons)
32 dimes (31 american, 1 canadian)

silver dime to silver quarter ratio: 6.4 to 1

all silver to silver quarter % = 12.8% (very close to goesforever)

so far in 2012: 5 silvers, 2 quarters and 3 dimes

Seems like Im due for a lot more dimes and no more quarters for a while. and YOURE DUE! :bouncy:

Its just like a wheat to silver ratio, yesterday i went out and scored 8 wheats but no silver. in the long term, it all averages out. You have youre good days, and slower days. Excel makes MD'ing even more fun. :clapping:

The bottom line really, no matter what I find, I just thank the Lord I have the health and the time to get out and DIG.

Historically, over 35 years of MDing, my silver finds are approximately: 80% dimes, 10% quarters, 7% war nickels, and 3% halves.

Cool stuff...seems like my ratios are reasonably close to what everyone else is getting. So far, I have mostly been doing middle-income neighborhoods (or what would have been middle-income in their day). I'm about to try the higher-income properties and see if the ratio is similar.

THANKS for sharing your thoughts. I still consider myself a newbie with the Etrac and your thoughts and suggestions are most helpful!

And thanks to Matt for the explanation of the upper right corner. I was going to open it up; now I think I'll just leave it as is.

I hate to make your life more complicated But..the top right corner being blocked prevented me from getting a large Silver

It happened once and it has remained open ever since!

Good Luck

Right now I'm 28 wheats to 10 silver coins. So that is about 1 silver to every 3 wheats. 8 silver dimes and 2 silver quarters....... I can live with that. :minelab::buds:

Thanks...just what I needed...more complications. Actually, I do appreciate you letting me know. I will have to research it and test it further. Thanks for sharing your thoughts.

:drinking: You don't think I am called the Quarterhorse 'cause I am fast do ya!!! ...............
My year started in November when I got my E-trac:devil:

I wish I was getting a 1 to 10 ration for quarters! I think I have been hitting about 20-30 dimes for each quarter. I think it has to do with the sites I was hunting. A lot of parks that have been hit hard. Quarters are big and easily found by lesser machines, especially 30 years ago when they were shallower. It seems that most of my dimes have been mixed with iron, or on-edge.
